New England Governors Seeking Collaborative And Separate Energy Projects

New England governors say they are committed to a collaborative solution in hopes of lowering energy costs. Five of the region’s six governors meet in Hartford Thursday for an energy summit.Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy says the region’s leaders have agreed to look at ways to collectively and separately expand natural gas infrastructure, electric transmission and purchase renewable energy.

“Some of us, for instance in Connecticut, need some legislative approval with respects to our next steps,” Malloy said. “I’ve agreed as soon as I know yay or nay on that legislation I’m going to get on the phone with my fellow governors no later than June with respect to what our legal position is potentially playing a role driving a market.”

Two energy representatives of Governor Maggie Hassan’s administration attended in lieu of the New Hampshire Democrat. Energy-focused activist groups gathered in Hartford to protest what they see as a process closed to citizen input.
