Chittenden County Sheriff Warns Of Phone Scam

The Chittenden County Sheriff’s Office and the Vermont State Police are  investigating a phone scam in which callers say they are from the Sheriff’s office.

Law enforcement officials say the callers say they are Deputy Sheriffs or employees of the Chittenden County Sheriff’s department.

A false caller ID number mimics the actual Chittenden County Sheriff’s business line.

The caller either claims to be making collections for the IRS or to have warrants for child support.  If questioned, the caller has become angry and used profanity.

Police say no money should be sent, no personal information divulged and any suspicious calls reported to local police.
