Alan Alda At UVM To Promote Science Communication

WAMC/Pat Bradley

Actor Alan Alda, best known for his role as Hawkeye Pierce on the tv series MASH, was on the University of Vermont campus Monday to help launch a new institute to train scientists to more effectively communicate with the public.

Alda was on the Burlington campus to deliver a lecture on better communicating science to the public.  His visit initiates UVM’s affiliation with the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University.  “The whole notion of communication is so important we feel. And I think there’s a growing feeling in the science community that communication is vital for science to survive.”

The Alda Center is also holding day-long workshops on Tuesday
