Another weekly meeting is set for 5 o’clock today in North Adams following the closing of the area’s hospital March 28.

For the past two weeks community members, elected officials and union representatives have gathered to provide updates on the work to restore emergency services in the Northern Berkshires and offer support to the 530 former employees of Northern Berkshire Healthcare. David Schildmeier is with the Massachusetts Nurses Association which represents about 100 of the former workers.

“The ultimate goal and everything that we’ve been doing is to establish and restore a full-service hospital for the 38,000-plus in northern Berkshire County,” Schildmeier said.

A temporary restraining order allows Berkshire Medical Center to take necessary steps to operate a satellite emergency facility in the region. NBH’s assets are under the control of a court-appointed bankruptcy attorney.

The meeting starts at 5 p.m. at the North Adams American Legion.

Jim was WAMC’s Assistant News Director and hosted WAMC's flagship news programs: Midday Magazine, Northeast Report and Northeast Report Late Edition.
