Authorities recovered the body of an unidentified male from a dam along the Housatonic River in Pittsfield.

At the site of the drowning at the Tel-Electric Dam near Mill Street in Pittsfield. Fire Chief Bob Czerwinki said that emergency workers were able to retrieve the body from a spillway after recovery efforts continued into a second day.

"We’ve worked using sand bags and aluminum plates to seal up the flow of the river, which helped us dislodge the body from where it was being drawn in. That relief in pressure allowed us to put divers in the water and at approximately 2:35 this afternoon, we were able to successfully extricate the body from its location and bring it to shore for the medical examiner,” said Czerwinksi.

According to authorities the man was swimming at the dam before he was pulled into the spillway by the current at around 11 a.m. Tuesday.
