GMO Labeling Won't Pass This Year in Vermont

With just a week or two to go in this year's Vermont Legislative session, it's becoming clear that lawmakers won't pass a bill requiring labels on genetically modified food.

The House Judiciary Committee on Friday was not expected to finish its work on the measure and send the measure to the full House for debate.

Backers of the measure say that doesn't leave enough time for the bill to move through the Senate process and then have any differences between the two chambers' versions worked out.

Among the concerns throughout the process is the likelihood that a Vermont law on GMO labeling could draw a lawsuit from the biotech industry.
