NYS Says Five More Communities Are Climate Smart

The New York state Department of Environmental Conservation has announced the latest round of certified climate smart communities. Two of the five are in the Hudson Valley.

The Town of Cortlandt in Westchester County and City of Kingston in Ulster County have taken actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to a changing climate. Kingston attained the silver level, becoming one of four silver-certified communities in the state and, says Mayor Steve Noble, the only city to achieve such certification. Ulster County is one of the silver-certified communities. Certified communities are leaders in the state and have completed actions that mitigate and adapt to climate change at the local level. Cortlandt, along with Warren County and the Town and Village of Hamilton, earned bronze-level certification.
