Clearwater’s annual music festival is being scaled down this year. The Beacon, New York-based nonprofit suffered a financial loss from last year’s festival and wants to set itself afloat before sinking more money into another big production. WAMC’s Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Allison Dunne spoke with Clearwater’s executive director about the decision and what lies ahead.
Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival, founded by the late Pete and Toshi Seeger, will be replaced by a smaller community celebration this June. This comes after Clearwater incurred a nearly $190,000 loss from last year’s festival. Executive Director Greg Williams says Clearwater has been working ever since to pay down the debt to festival vendors and keep the organization stable. Williams says there are plans to return to the larger music and environmental festival after this year.
