A New York congressman has reintroduced legislation to honor the Purple Heart Hall of Honor with a commemorative coin.

Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney reintroduced the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Commemorative Coin Act Thursday to honor the Hall of Honor with a coin provided by the U.S. Mint. Proceeds from the program would be directed to the New Windsor-based Purple Heart Hall of Honor, in Maloney’s 18th District, for projects and programs. The bill would authorize the U.S. Treasury to mint $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins and half-dollar clad coins at the U.S.  Mint at West Point. The legislation is co-led by California Democrat Mark Takano, who chairs the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and Wisconsin Republican Mike Gallagher, a Marine Corps veteran. The bill has 167 bipartisan co-sponsors.
