Three members of Congress are cheering a decision concerning House policy on the use of official funds to purchase feminine hygiene products. It’s a policy that has allowed for the purchase of other types of hygienic products.

One is New York Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, who says House Administration Committee Chairperson Zoe Lofgren responded quickly to clarify House policy. The request for clarification came after Maloney purchased a box of tampons in June and was told that the use of his Members’ Representational Allowance for this purpose was not permitted. Maloney says Lofgren, who was not in the post at that time, responded Tuesday saying new House policy permits the use of official funds for the purchase of feminine hygiene products and requires the House Office Supply Store to stock them. Maloney and fellow Democratic Representatives Grace Meng of New York and Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida penned a letter Monday asking for the guidance.
