Grant Will Help Westchester Better Perform DNA Analysis

A U.S. Department of Justice grant is headed Westchester’s way to help increase the county’s capacity to perform DNA analysis and reduce the backlog of unfinished cases.

Democratic Congresswoman Nita Lowey, the ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee, Friday announced Friday the more than $205,000 grant that will help the Westchester County Division of Forensic Sciences acquire new laboratory supplies and equipment, increase access to training, obtain a required external quality assurance standards audit to ensure that testing is accurate, and increase the capability of the Division to hire temporary laboratory technician support staff. It’s a National Institute of Justice DNA Capacity Enhancement and Backlog Reduction Program grant.
