Town Supervisor To Challenge Longtime NY Assemblyman

Susan Zimet

Voters in a certain assembly district in the Hudson Valley are looking at a Democratic primary this year.

Assemblyman Kevin Cahill has a challenger – New Paltz Town Supervisor Susan Zimet, who announced Tuesday her candidacy for the 103rd New York Assembly District, which covers most of Ulster County plus Rhinebeck and Red Hook in Dutchess County. Zimet made the announcement in a campaign video.

“Unfortunately, our assemblyman, who so many of us have supported for so long, has become a part of the Albany culture, says Zimet. “ I am running for the assembly with my eyes wide open. I know I am running against the Albany machine and large corporate funders.”

Cahill, who declined to address specific issues raised in Zimet’s video, prepared a statement.

“And I’m proud of my record, my achievements and my vision for the people of Ulster and Dutchess counties and the great state of New York.”

He adds that he welcomes the opportunity to discuss any issues the residents of his district deem to be important.
