NYS Audit Uncovers Alleged Misuse Of Funds In A Dutchess Town

An audit from the New York State comptroller’s office finds alleged misuse of funds in a Dutchess County town.

The former recreation director in the town of Fishkill allegedly misused as much as $50,000 generated by the town’s senior center. That’s according to an audit released by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. The audit’s findings have been referred to the Dutchess County district attorney. The audit alleges the former director opened an unauthorized bank account which allowed her to deposit senior center funds. She allegedly purchased items apparently not for senior center use, such as patio furniture, wine, and baby items. The audit found she and certain senior center members and staff also failed to reimburse the town for two cruises, a trip to Las Vegas and day trips. Town officials generally agreed with the audit findings and indicated they have taken steps to improve their internal financial controls.
