The New York state comptroller says an audit finds that a Dutchess County town faces financial challenges.
An audit issued by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli finds that unrealistic budgets, insufficient revenues, and the lack of rainy day funds left the Town of Fishkill in fiscal stress. DiNapoli says the town is digging out from sizeable operating deficits caused by years of poor budgeting. He adds that the current administration has begun to implement the necessary changes to improve Fishkill’s finances. Auditors found the town’s year-end fund balance for its major operating funds had a combined $2.2 million deficit at the end of 2012. Town officials agreed with the audit findings and indicate they have already begun developing a multi-year financial plan to address many of the issues raised in the report.
