U.S. Senator Gillibrand Aims to Boost Manufacturing

U.S. Senator from New York Kirsten Gillibrand has introduced her first piece of legislation in the 113th Congress, and she made a few stops in the Hudson Valley Friday to tout the measure she says will help revitalize manufacturing.

It’s called the “Made in America Manufacturing Act”, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says it’s a way to boost manufacturing sectors and arm workers with new skills. She was first in Westchester County, to talk about her measure, at a Yonkers manufacturer that produces plastic displays for major retailers and marketing companies – POP Displays.  Later in the day, she teamed up with fellow Democrat Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney in Orange County, at the Hudson Valley Technology Development Center in Newburgh, where she discussed how her legislation would create a competitive program that awards states and regions with funding to support local manufacturers through low-interest loans to build new facilities and upgrade equipment, and give access to capital and technical assistance to develop exporting opportunities and to connect small suppliers with larger companies. Funding would also go towards job training and vocational-education programs.
