The Mendelssohn Club of Albany Holiday Concert
The Mendelssohn Club of Albany Holiday Concert
This year's theme, Mostly Classical Christmas, will feature a wide range of familiar and new holiday songs. To help celebrate, the choir will be joined by guest artists Brian Hoffman, Organist and Lauren Nash Silberstein, Soprano.
As a concert organist, Mr. Hoffman has performed hundreds of concerts in the United States, including solo performances at St. Patrick's Cathedral NYC and on “the world’s largest organ in a sacred space” the 380-rank organ at West Point Cadet Chapel. His most recent project, begun during the pandemic of 2020, is the recordings of the complete organ works of J.S. Bach on organs from around the world via the Hauptwerk program.
Lauren Nash Silberstein recently made her role debut as Gilda in Verdi's "Rigoletto" with The Druid City Opera and portrayed Julie Jordan in Carousel at First Coast Opera in Florida. In Spring of 2025, She received First Prize in both the Opera Connecticut Vocal Competition and the Mendelssohn Club's Joel Dolven Vocal Competition-Advanced Division. Returning to her hometown in 2024, Lauren enjoyed being a part of Opera Saratoga's concert series and English production. In October 2022 Lauren was the recipient of the four-figure Bedřich Smetana Award from the American International Czech and Slovak Competition.
Since its inception in 1909, the Mendelssohn Club chorus has become the longest continuously performing arts group in the Capital District of New York State. The Mendelssohn Club of Albany is composed of men with a variety of occupations and interests who live in the greater Capital District, Hudson Valley, and Berkshires. The Club is dedicated to preserving and presenting male choral music and blends musical experiences with fellowship for members through rehearsals, concerts and other musical events, afterglows and social gatherings.
