On this week’s 51%, we hear about proposed legislation in New York to require hotels to train employees to recognize human trafficking. And we’ll hear from an advocate of this bill, a child sex trafficking survivor. Plus, a military wife turns full-time caregiver but who’s helping the caregiver? I’m Allison Dunne and this is 51%.

Human trafficking recognition training story.

We’re going to hear more about Anneke Lucas’ story. In addition to advocating for human trafficking recognition training in hotels, she is the founder and executive director of Liberation Prison Yoga. She runs a program at Rikers Island jail complex in New York City with incarcerated survivors of sex trafficking. I sat down with her after the press conference announcing Assemblywoman Amy Paulin’s bill, at the Ritz Carlton. The conversation is not graphic, but may be disturbing to a younger audience.

That was Anneke Lucas, child sex trafficking survivor and founder of Liberation Prison Yoga.

When service members return from the battlefield with lifetime disabilities, their spouses often become full-time caregivers.  The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have drafted more than a million family members into that role ... and their needs are overwhelming a government program designed to help them.  Bobbie O'Brien reports from Tampa.

This story was produced by the American Homefront Project  -- a collaboration of North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC, KPCC-Los Angeles, and WUSF-Tampa, with funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Bob Woodruff Foundation.
