Who would have guessed the next woman heading for the White House would be a Republican...in the same year!

The surprise choice of Alaska governor Sarah Palin has certainly energized the voters...polls show John McCain enjoying a healthy bounce, conservatives are gathering her up in a collective bear hug, and liberals are climbing over each other to dispute the 'cute, feisty, capable mom' image the GOP is trying to spin around her. Sarah Palin is someone we're just getting to know...and people from her home state are happy to talk about her. Progressive radio journalist Shannyn Moore is not among her fans.

Most adults are fired up about the presidential campaign this year. Even better, many younger voters are excited, too.. But it doesn't take much to discourage us...and that was one of the challenges author Susan Goodman faced when she wrote her book on politics for kids...it's called See How They Run ...and she spoke with 51%'s Glenn Busby.

As part of the National Science Foundation, The Sounds of Progress series, narrator, Kate Mulgrew, profiles Frances Gabe. She ought to be everyone's hero. She's the woman who helped create what many of us think of as the world of tomorrow..
