NEA PRESIDENT PREDICTS ON THIS SHOW THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA'S STIMULUS BILL WILL SAVE "TENS OF THOUSANDS" OF TEACHER'S JOBS
Some 7-thousand teacher union delegates convened in San Diego this summer for the National Education Association's annual convention. One of the first speakers was U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, who's been on this program several times.
Shortly after Secretary Duncan left the assembly, and since that occasion, union delegates have been debating resolutions and policies of the Obama administration's emerging education agenda.
We wanted to find out where they stand now on some of the major education issues facing the country like: jobs, performance-based pay, low-performing schools, dropouts, and NCLB reform, among others.
So, TBOOK went directly to the source, the new President of the NEA, Dennis Van Roekel, for this exclusive interview.

"THE CONDITION OF EDUCATION 2009", A NEW REPORT FROM
THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR EDUCATION STATISTICS -
"The Condition of Education" is a congressionally mandated report that provides an annual portrait of education in the United States. The 46 indicators included in this year's report cover all aspects of education - from early childhood through postsecondary education and from student achievement to school environment and resources.
Education Secretary, Arne Duncan, reacted saying, "While the findings of the report show that young students are showing some progress, we can't overlook the fact that adults need more help in preparing for the work world or further education."
TBOOK microphones were on location in Washington to record findings of the report and ask a few questions. Featured here is Stuart Kerachsky, Acting Commissioner, National Center for Education Statistics.
