A series of seven meetings in a month to consider the future of policing in the city of Albany begins Wednesday. Albany’s Policing Reform and Reinvention Collaborative, whose goal is eliminating structural racism and bias in city policing, is seeking public input.

The meetings begin at 6 p.m. on December 9th, December 11th, 15th, 16th and January 4th, 6th and 11th.

Residents can register to speak on the city’s website, or submit written comments to coareform1@gmail.com.

Mayor Kathy Sheehan outlined the timeline earlier this fall.

“A goal of getting a plan to the council for their review and for public comment by mid-February, and the council will then make a determination on whether to adopt that plan and they have until April first to do that," the Democrat said.

With state funding at risk, Governor Andrew Cuomo directed localities to finish their reform plans by April.
