Primaries Tuesday In Vermont, Connecticut

A voting booth

Candidates are rallying their supporters in the final days before Tuesday’s primaries in Vermont and Connecticut. Voter turnout is expected to be low in the summertime primaries this week. In Connecticut, it’s the first time there's been an open race for governor since 2010. That year, voter turnout was less than 25 percent among registered Democrats and less than 30 percent for registered Republicans.

Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy is not seeking re-election. There are five GOP candidates and two Democrats vying for their party's gubernatorial nomination. There are also primaries for state constitutional and legislative seats, as well as the 5th Congressional District. In Vermont, candidates are running for Congress and governor. Republican Governor Phil Scott is seeking a second term. The Massachusetts primary is September 4. New York’s statewide primary is September 13.
