Albany Democratic Mayoral Debate Set For Aug. 17

Albany mayoral debate

WAMC/Northeast Public Radio and WNYT NewsChannel 13 will host a live debate among the Democratic candidates for mayor of Albany — Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Common Council President Carolyn McLaughlin, and Common Councilor Frank Commisso Jr. — on August 17 from 8-9 p.m. at The Linda, WAMC’s performing arts studio, at 339 Central Ave. in Albany.

“WAMC is delighted to be partnering with WNYT to host this very important debate,” says WAMC President and CEO Dr. Alan Chartock, who will host the program. “Democracy is only feasible when people know something about the candidates.”

Debate panelists include NewsChannel 13 anchor Benita Zahn and WAMC News Director Ian Pickus.

The debate will be broadcast live on both stations and on the web at wamc.org and wnyt.com.

WNYT Vice President and General Manager Steve Baboulis says, “I am very pleased that WNYT and WAMC will be broadcasting and streaming this debate live in prime time, and I expect robust social media involvement.  With our combined audiences on all content platforms, this important debate will be available to virtually every resident of the city of Albany.”

Tickets are free and available to the public. Space is limited. Attendees can RSVP at thelinda.org.

The pivotal primary is Tuesday, September 12.
