Another Mayoral Candidate Releases Tax Returns

A second Albany mayoral candidate has released personal income tax returns.

Green Party hopeful Dan Plaat has released three yearsworth of tax returns, after Democratic Common Councilor Frank Commisso Junior became the first to release his returns last week. Commisso did not ask other candidates to follow suit. In an emailed statement Plaat noted "Commisso has released his returns to show he is clean of special interests (no problem with that), I would point out mine show I have a shared interest with working and poor people in the city." Common Council President Carolyn McLaughlin, also running for mayor, has said she won't be releasing hers.  Mayor Kathy Sheehan has declined to comment. Conservative candidate Joe Sullivan and the fourth Democrat vying for mayor, activist Marlon Anderson, haven’t released theirs.

Dave Lucas is WAMC’s Capital Region Bureau Chief. Born and raised in Albany, he’s been involved in nearly every aspect of local radio since 1981. Before joining WAMC, Dave was a reporter and anchor at WGY in Schenectady. Prior to that he hosted talk shows on WYJB and WROW, including the 1999 series of overnight radio broadcasts tracking the JonBenet Ramsey murder case with a cast of callers and characters from all over the world via the internet. In 2012, Dave received a Communicator Award of Distinction for his WAMC news story "Fail: The NYS Flood Panel," which explores whether the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee could have been prevented or at least curbed. Dave began his radio career as a “morning personality” at WABY in Albany.
