Albany, NY – At a November 30 event in Pittsfield, Massachusetts State Senate President Therese Murray said she would not support a statewide moratorium on the construction of industrial wind turbines for the production of electricity.
Her statements were prompted by questions from local residents who have formed an organization opposed to the planned construction of turbines on nearby Lenox Mountain.
"Not in my Backyard" activists are also currently waging campaigns against biomass power in Vermont, and there are organizations of neighbors devoted to shutting down nuclear power throughout the northeast, notably New York's Indian Point.
What's your take on the NIMBY crowd? Are they patriots, or are they pests? WAMC's Alan Chartock hosts.
