NY – The concept of a single payer health care system figured prominently into early discussions on national health care reform, but was not seriously considered when it came time to transform health care reform legislation into federal law. Now the single payer model is back in the spotlight, with Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin signing a bill last Thursday that puts the green mountain state on a path to creating the nation's first publicly financed health care system.
