A U.S. Senate hearing on Wednesday focused on “modernizing the Endangered Species Act.” It is the latest under the Trump administration's push to reel in regulations they see as harmful to businesses and creating new jobs.

The two hour meeting of the Environment and Public Works Committee was led by Wyoming Senator John Barrasso who had previously said his focus in a bid to change the act would be “eliminating a lot of the red tape and bureaucratic burdens that have been impacting our ability to create jobs.”

The Washington Post reports that during the hearing, Barrasso declared the act “is not working today” and that people have said it impedes land management plans, housing development and cattle grazing. Agriculture industry leaders say the Endangered Species Act it imposes far-reaching regulatory burdens.
