Vermont Marks 40th Anniversary Of Endangered Species Act

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Biologists and conservationists are marking the 40th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act and Vermont's experience protecting the state's most vulnerable species.

Agency of Natural Resources Secretary Deb Markowitz says the event, entitled "From Loon to Lynx" is a reunion of people who have worked with Vermont's endangered species over the years. She says it's also a chance to look forward to coming challenges, such as those posed by climate change.

A number of species that had once all-but disappeared from Vermont are making a comeback.

Once endangered loons, peregrine falcons and bald eagles are all returning but other species remain challenged such as the spotted turtle and the Canada lynx.
