Springfield, MA – Mayor Domenic Sarno won re-election by a nearly three to one margin over his challenger..the city council president Jose Tosado.. At his campaign headquarters election night, Sarno said he was very grateful for the resounding victory.
Sarno, who won praise for leading the city in the aftermath of the devastating June 1st tornadoes announced he would donate five thousand dollars from his campaign fund toward the rebuilding effort..
William Foley , who served 28 years on the Springfield city council said voters rewarded Sarno for his dedication to the job of mayor.
Sarno has won consecutive elections now by huge margins over veteran politicians. Tim Vercellotti, a professor of political science at Western New England University says the Sarno administration has been scandal free, and voters are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the city's problems including crime, public education and jobs.
Voters in Holyoke made history as they elected that city's youngest ever chief executive. 22 year old Alex Morse, a recent graduate of Brown University, defeated veteran politician and incumbent Mayor Elaine Pluta
Morse, who ran on a platform of energy and new ideas promised to become Holyoke's chief marketing officer in a bid to lure businesses and jobs to the city that has the second highest percentage of people living in poverty in Massachusetts.
David Narkewicz was elected to be the first new mayor in Northampton in a dozen years.
Narkewicz became acting mayor in September when Claire Higgins resigned to go to work for an anti-poverty agency. His margin of victory, two to one, over former city council president Michael Bardsley, was surprising, according to political consultant Anthony Cignolli..
