Mike Barnicle To Speak In Berkshires

One of the journalists most closely associated with Boston is heading west tonight to the Berkshires to deliver the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s annual Mona Sherman Memorial Lecture at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield.

The topic of Mike Barnicle’s address, which begins at 6 and is free and open to the public, is “Optimism: America’s Most Ignored Asset.”

A Massachusetts native who began his career as a prominent political speechwriter, Barnicle has written for The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, New York Daily News, and The Daily Beast, to name a few. He is a frequent presence on television as a member of the Morning Joe panel on MSNBC and has produced award-winning documentaries.

Dr. Alan Chartock is professor emeritus at the University at Albany. He hosts the weekly Capitol Connection series, heard on public radio stations around New York. The program, for almost 12 years, highlighted interviews with Governor Mario Cuomo and now continues with conversations with state political leaders. Dr. Chartock also appears each week on The Media Project and The Roundtable and offers commentary on Morning Edition, weekdays at 7:40 a.m.
