As our nation approaches 250 years of independence and its 57th presidential election, Community Conversations invites New Yorkers to discuss the role democracy plays in their lives as members of local, national, and global communities.
This morning we will partner with the New York Council for the Humanities and welcome two experts to have an in-depth discussion about civic participation and the meaning of democracy.
We have two exceptional guests joining us in the studio: Roger Berkowitz is Associate Professor in the departments of Political Studies, Philosophy, and Human Rights at Bard College where he is Academic Director of the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities.
James Coll is an adjunct associate professor of American and Constitutional history at Nassau Community College and a detective with the New York City Police Department. In his work with the NYPD, James has received numerous awards, including being named Cop of the Year by the New York City Police Foundation for the efforts of his unit during the US Airways Flight 1549 plane crash in the Hudson River in January 2009.
