The annual Battle of Plattsburgh commemoration is occurring in the downtown this weekend

A memorial ceremony was held Thursday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Macdonough Monument.

Plattsburgh officials today commemorated the 100th anniversary of a monument downtown commemorating an American victory there during the War of 1812.

Organizers recently announced the lineup for the annual commemoration of the 1814 Battle of Plattsburgh. Most traditional events are planned, but some have been curtailed due to factors including the tariff tiff between the U.S. and Canada.

This is the 23rd year that Friends of Crab Island, the American Legion and other veterans groups paid tribute to soldiers who died during the Battle of Plattsburgh on September 11, 1814 and are buried on Crab Island, offshore of Plattsburgh. But it was the first time the commemoration has not been held on the island.

In two months, the Plattsburgh region will commemorate a battle on Lake Champlain that helped lead to the end of the War of 1812.

The Battle of Plattsburgh Weekend begins Thursday and this year marks 25 years of continuous commemorations of the September 11th, 1814 battle.
