The Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals were able to knot their Stanley Cup second-round series at a game apiece by winning on Sunday.
Kevin Fiala scored on a 2-on-1 5:37 into double-overtime to lift the Predators over the Winnipeg Jets, 5-4.
Ryan Johansen put Nashville ahead 5:45 into the third period, 34 seconds after Brandon Tanev tied it. The lead held up until Mark Schiefele notched his second goal of the game, beating Pekka Rinne with 65 seconds left in regulation.
Johansen finished with two goals, Viktor Arvidsson had a goal and two assists and Filip Forsberg set up three scores.
Game 3 is Tuesday at Winnipeg.
In Washington, Alex Ovechkin notched his seventh goal of the playoffs while the Capitals were building a 3-0 lead in a 4-1 win over the visiting Pens. Jakub Vrana scored a power-play goal and Brett Connolly's breakaway tally gave Washington a three-goal cushion early in the second period.
The Capitals managed to stay in front after blowing a 2-0 lead in the third period of a series-opening loss.
Braden Holtby turned back 32 shots and blanked the Penguins after Kris Letang beat him with 6:56 left in the second period.
Matt Murray made 28 saves for the Penguins, who played a second straight game without Evgeni Malkin because of an apparent left leg injury.
Game 3 is Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
Boston had the night off. The Bruins hold a 1-0 series lead against The Lighting. The two face off Monday at 7 p.m.
NBA
The Cleveland Cavaliers were able to squeak by the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of the NBA's Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
LeBron James poured in 45 points in 43 minutes as the Cavs downed the Pacers, 105-101 in Cleveland. James had to be treated for cramps late in the third quarter before he improved to 13-0 in first-round series.
The Pacers trailed by four until James scored on a bullet pass from Kyle Korver with 30 seconds left, giving the Cavaliers enough breathing room.
The Cavs also received production from Tristan Thompson, who contributed 15 points and 10 boards in a rare start. Kevin Love hit four 3-pointers in a 14-point performance, and George Hill added 11 points in 19 second-half minutes after missing the previous three games with back spasms.
Victor Oladipo scored 30 points and Darren Collison had 23 for the Pacers.
The Cavaliers will take on the Raptors in the conference semifinals beginning Tuesday in Toronto as the two teams meet in the postseason for the third straight year.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets cruised to a Game 1 victory over Utah in the Western Conference semifinals.
James Harden dropped in 31 points and Chris Paul added 17 in the Rockets, 110-96 rout of the Jazz. Harden and Paul combined for 34 points while Houston was building a 25-point halftime lead.
Harden also had seven assists and eight rebounds for the Rockets, who were playing for the first time since eliminating the Timberwolves on Wednesday.
The Jazz got 21 points each from rookie Donovan Mitchell and Jae Crowder while playing without starting point guard Ricky Rubio, who sat with a strained left hamstring.
Game 2 is Tuesday.
Elsewhere in the NBA:
Celtics coach Brad Stevens says guard Jaylen Brown is doubtful for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the 76ers because of a strained hamstring.
Brown was injured in Game 7 of the conference quarterfinals against the Bucks.
Stevens says it looks as though Brown could return later in the series.
North American Premier Basketball League
Sports enthusiasts and local businesspeople had hoped the third time would be a charm for a beloved Albany basketball franchise. Those hopes apparently have been dashed.
Last August, officials with the North American Premier Basketball League announced the 2018 season would begin in January, and the Patroons—who returned for four years in 2005 — were back.
But, according to the Times Union, the team hasn't attracted fans and is suffering financially. The paper says the championship playoff game Tuesday against the Ohio Bootleggers will likely be the last for the green and gold. One official said there is a 50-50 chance the Capital Region will host a pro basketball team next year.
MLB
The Boston Red Sox managed to salvage their series finale against Tampa Bay while ending the Rays' eight-game winning streak.
The Bosox pulled out a 4-3 win over the Rays on Sandy Leon's RBI single with two out in the eighth inning. J.D. Martinez had four singles and drove in two runs to help Boston overcome Denard Span's two-run blast.
The Rays were trying to reach the .500 mark and tie a club record for consecutive victories.
Boston will host The Royals Monday at 7:10 p.m.

The Yankees own a nine-game winning streak after Gary Sanchez unloaded a long, two-run homer in the fourth inning to back CC Sabathia on a 2-1 triumph over the Angels. Sabathia took a shutout into the sixth and held Los Angeles to five hits over seven innings. The Angels have a four-game losing streak and are just 3-9 since winning 13 of their first 16 games. The Yanks head to Houston to take on the Astros Monday at 8:10 p.m.
The Astros were 8-4 winners over the Athletics as Gerrit Cole struck out 12 while yielding three runs and six hits over 6 2/3s. Cole has struck out 10 or more in four of his six starts this season after doing it just six times in five seasons with the Pirates. George Springer and Jose Altuve drove in two runs apiece for the Astros, who were tied 3-3 before scoring three times in two Oakland errors in the seventh inning.
The Mariners pounded the Indians for the second straight day as Ryon Healy homered twice and collected four RBIs in a 10-4 romp at Cleveland. Robinson Cano supplied a two-run homer during Seattle's five-run second off Josh Tomlin. Mitch Haniger added his 10th home run to tie for the major league lead.
J.A. Happ struck out nine while allowing two runs and five hits over seven innings of the Blue Jays' 7-2 win over the Rangers. Kevin Pillar homered for the third time in two games, while Teoscar Hernandez and Yangervis Solarte added solo shots. Toronto ended a four-game home losing streak and won for the third time in 10 games overall.
The Orioles earned their first home series win of the season by getting a pair of homers from substitute starter Pedro Alvarez and a solo shot from Trey Mancini in a 5-3 decision over the Tigers. Kevin Gausman allowed one run and five hits over 5 2/3 innings for the Orioles, who took two of three from Detroit following a five-game skid.
Nick Kingham took a perfect game into the seventh inning of his major league debut and Elias Diaz went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the Pirates won their fifth in a row, 5-0 over the Cardinals. Kingham struck out nine over seven innings and retired his first 20 batters before Paul De Jong singled with two out in the seventh. Neither team scored until the Bucs' four-run sixth.
Tyler Chatwood tossed two-hit ball over seven innings and hit an RBI single as the Cubs blanked the Brewers, 2-0 to complete a four-game sweep. Addison Russell had two hits, a sacrifice fly and a run scored as the Cubs improved to 7-1 against the Brewers this year and moved a season-high five games above .500. The Brewers had won eight in a row before being held to two runs and 14 hits in the series.
Ronald Acuna Jr. completed his successful first week in the majors by providing two doubles and reaching base four times in the Braves' 10-1 mauling of the Phillies. The speedy Acuna had an RBI double in the eighth, walked twice and stole his first base while raising his average to .421 in 19 at-bats through five games. Johan Camargo hit a three-run home run to back Brandon McCarthy, who is 4-0 after allowing one run and five hits over 5 1/3 innings.
The Nationals avoided a three-game sweep as Gio Gonzalez struck out eight over seven innings of a 3-1 victory against the Diamondbacks. Matt Wieters and Michael A. Taylor hit solo homers to help the reigning NL East champs improve to 12-16. Arizona fell to an NL-leading 19-8 and lost starter Robbie Ray to a strained oblique muscle in the second inning.
Adrian Gonzalez crushed a three-run homer and had five RBIs as the Mets blasted the Padres, 14-2 to take the rubber match of the three-game series. Gonzalez also had a two-run double and fell a triple shy of the cycle. Todd Frazier and Jose Reyes also homered to support Zack Wheeler, who gave up two runs while striking out nine over five innings. The Mets begin a 3 game series against Atlanta Tuesday at 7:10 p.m.
Evan Longoria belted a three-run homer and Brandon Belt added an RBI double as the Giants beat the Dodgers for the third time in the four-game set, 4-2. Buster Posey doubled and scored twice to help San Francisco improve to 6-4 versus the defending NL champs this season. Ty Blach tossed shutout ball for the first five innings and left after allowing two runs and six hits over six-plus frames.
Left-hander Caleb Smith picked up his first big league victory by allowing just two hits in seven innings of the Marlins' 3-0 shutout of the Rockies. Smith struck out nine and walked one in the longest outing of his career. Miguel Rojas hit a solo homer for Miami, which allowed just two runs in the three-game series and won for the fourth time in five tries.
The Royals have their first winning streak of the season after Cheslor Cuthbert homered twice and drove in four to lead a 5-4 verdict over the White Sox. Cuthbert hadn't homered since last Aug. 20, a span of 109 at-bats. Whit Merrifield's RBI single snapped a 4-4 tie in the eighth.
Tyler Mahle surrendered just one run and four hits over 6 1/3 innings to pitch the Reds past the Twins, 8-2. Jose Peraza had three hits and Adam Duvall homered in the Reds' four win in seven games since a 3-18 start. The Twins have dropped nine of 10.
In other baseball news:
The Phillies have placed shortstop J.P. Crawford on the 10-day disabled list with a right forearm strain. The 23-year-old says he lost feeling near his elbow after making a relay throw to third base in the fifth inning of Saturday's 4-1 loss to Atlanta. He was lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the inning. Infielder Jesmuel Valentin was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday to replace him on the 25-man roster.
The Dodgers placed right fielder Yasiel Puig on the disabled list with a left hip pointer and bruised foot after getting hurt in the field and the plate a day earlier.
The Padres have placed outfielder Wil Myers on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left oblique and recalled outfielder Travis Jankowski from Triple-A El Paso. Myers was hurt while swinging at a pitch in Saturday night's 12-2 win against the New York Mets.
The Brewers have decided to insert Wade Miley into their rotation and move Brent Suter to the bullpen. Miley will make his first start of the year Wednesday in Cincinnati.
The Blue Jays have optioned slumping infielder Devon Travis to Triple-A Buffalo and recalled right-hander Carlos Ramirez. Travis started on opening day and hit just .148 with one homer and three RBIs in 18 games.

Joey Logano has ended a nearly yearlong losing streak with a victory at Talladega Superspeedway.
He had one brief challenge from Kurt Busch, who pulled out of line in traffic and tried to catch Logano but could not get the lead.
It was the 100th NASCAR victory for Team Penske, and Logano's third career win at Talladega.
Logano's last victory was April 30 of last year at Richmond but his car failed inspection. The benefits from the victory were stripped and it cost him a shot in the playoffs.
Busch finished second, followed by Chase Elliott, pole-sitter Kevin Harvick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Kyle Busch was 13th after winning the three previous Monster Energy races.
PGA
Billy Horschel and Scott Piercy won the Zurich Classic by closing with a bogey-free 5-under 67 in alternate-shot play.
Horschel became a two-time winner at TPC Louisiana. He captured his maiden PGA Tour triumph at the 2013 Zurich Classic when it was a traditional every-man-for-himself event.
Horschel and Piercy surged into the lead with birdies on the 10th and 11th holes and held off Jason Dufner and Pat Perez by a stroke.
LPGA
Lydia Ko hit a 3-wood to 3 feet for eagle to finish off Minjee Lee on the first hole of a playoff at the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship in California.
Ko won her 15th LPGA Tour title and first since July 2016, a 43-event stretch marked by changes in instructors, caddies and equipment. Ko closed with a 1-under 71 to match Lee at 12-under. Lee had her second straight 68.
