COLLEGE LACROSSE

The UAlbany men’s lacrosse team has been ranked No. 1 in the country in the Inside Lacrosse media poll released Monday. This is the first time the program has been ranked No. 1 in its 19-year Division I history.

The Great Danes play their first match as No. 1 when they host Cornell on Saturday at 1 p.m.

MLB

J.D. Martinez is finally a member of the Boston Red Sox.

The five-year, $110 million contract that Martinez agreed to with the club a week ago was finalized on Monday, when he was introduced at a news conference at JetBlue Park. After hitting 45 home runs in 119 combined games last season for the Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks, Martinez became the most prominent position player on the free agent market.

The Red Sox took extra time with the medical evaluation, with particular attention paid to a right foot injury that Martinez suffered last year. That led to some language changes to protect the Red Sox over the life of the deal, but the 30-year-old Martinez was deemed fully healthy for 2018.

In other MLB news:

Baseball free agents will play two exhibition games this week against a Japanese amateur team. The Major League Baseball Players Association says the games against JR East will take place at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The games will be open to media and scouts but not the public.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has reported to a week of spring training with the New York Yankees. A 2014 Super Bowl champion, the 29-year-old worked out at second base in early drills Monday with shortstop Didi Gregorius. He spent parts of 2010 and '11 playing second base in Class A ball for the Colorado Rockies organization. The Yankees, his favorite baseball team, acquired him from Texas on Feb. 7.

Free agent reliever Seung-Hwan Oh and the Toronto Blue Jays have finalized a $2 million, one-year contract. The deal includes a $2.5 million team option for 2019 that could become guaranteed based on appearances. A 35-year-old right-hander, Oh was 1-6 with a 4.10 ERA and 20 saves in 24 chances last year for the St. Louis Cardinals.

MLB-SCHEDULE

Robbie Ray looked just fine in his first start of the spring. The Arizona lefty threw two hitless, scoreless innings with three strikeouts and a walk in the Diamondbacks' 5-2 win over Cincinnati. Ray was an All-Star last season and won 15 games, but says he doesn't spend much time thinking about how far he's advanced in the game. For him this spring, he said, it's about getting ready and staying healthy.

In other league action:

Francisco Rodriguez allowed an unearned run and one hit over one inning in his second outing as he bids to win a spot in the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen. The 36-year-old right-hander, who agreed to a minor league contract in January, walked one and struck out one against the New York Yankees.

The courtship of LeBron James has taken an Oscar-worthy turn — toward Philadelphia.

Three billboards urging James to leave the Cavaliers and sign with the Philadelphia 76ers this summer as a free agent have been installed along Interstate-480 south of Cleveland. Four bus passengers were treated at a hospital for minor injuries. Donahue and a passenger apparently were not injured.
