Ben McAdoo will remain the New York Giants' head coach at least until the end of the season despite the team's 1-8 start. Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch said in a statement today that they won't evaluate the team and make any moves until the end of the season. McAdoo's future has been a major topic the past two weeks in the wake of a 34-point home loss to the Los Angeles Rams and yesterday's 10-point loss to the previously-winless San Francisco 49ers.
The 40-year-old McAdoo has seen his team fall apart after making the playoffs in his rookie season as an NFL head coach last year.
The Carolina Panthers are heading into their bye week just a half-game behind the first-place New Orleans Saints in the NFC South.
The Panthers rolled up a team-record 548 total yards in a 45-21 pounding of the Miami Dolphins. Cam Newton provided much of that yardage by providing 254 yards through the air and 95 on the ground. Newton also threw two of his four scoring passes to Devin Funchess, who had five receptions for 92 yards.
Rookie Christian McCaffrey scored touchdowns rushing and receiving as the Panthers improved to 7-3.
Jay Cutler had 213 yards passing with two touchdowns and one interception for the 4-5 Dolphins.
Elsewhere in the NFL:
—The Jaguars will be without receiver Allen Hurns at winless Cleveland on Sunday, a potentially significant setback for a team already playing without Allen Robinson. Hurns injured his right ankle while making a six-yard catch against the Chargers late in regulation Sunday.
—Broncos coach Vance Joseph says quarterback Brock Osweiler will start against Cincinnati next weekend. And he gave his beleaguered special teams coach Brock Olivo a vote of confidence after the return teams were directly responsible for 24 New England points in a 41-16 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.
— Browns starting linebacker Jamie Collins is done for the season with a sprained right knee ligament suffered while returning an interception in Sunday's loss to Detroit.
—Bears coach John Fox says he isn't worried about his job security despite increasing criticism following the team's 23-16 loss Sunday to the Packers.
—The Chiefs have waived defensive tackle Roy Miller, two days after he was arrested in Florida and accused of assaulting his wife during an argument at their home.
NBA-SCHEDULE
The New York Knicks continue to have trouble closing out victories.
The Cleveland Cavaliers won at Madison Square Garden by erasing a 23-point deficit in the second half of a 104-101 decision over the Knicks. The Cavaliers made nine 3-pointers in the fourth quarter after hitting just seven through three periods.
Kyle Korver scored 19 of his 21 points in the final quarter to lead the comeback. LeBron James delivered 23 points and 12 assists in the Cavaliers' eighth straight win at the Garden.
Also in the NBA:
— The Warriors won their seventh in a row behind Kevin Durant's 21 points, a season-high eight assists and seven rebounds in a 110-100 decision over the Magic. Shaun Livingston scored a season-best 16 points in place of the injured Stephen Curry, who sat out with a bruised right thigh.
— The Wizards picked up their third consecutive win as John Wall's 21 points and nine assists led a 110-92 decision over the Kings. Washington had six players reach double-figures in scoring, with Marcin Gortat delivering 18 points while Otto Porter and Mike Scott each contributed 15.
— Giannis Antetokounmpo had 27 points and nine rebounds in the Bucks' 110-103 victory against Memphis. Khris Middleton and John Henson had 17 points apiece in Milwaukee's third straight win.
— The Timberwolves rode Karl-Anthony Towns' 24 points and 13 rebounds to a 109-98 win at Utah. Jimmy Butler added 21 points and 10 assists as the 8-5 Wolves stopped a two-game skid.
— Darius Miller hit four 3-pointers while scoring 14 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter to send the Pelicans past the Hawks 106-105. DeMarcus Cousins had 22 points and 16 rebounds, while Anthony Davis added 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots to help New Orleans win for the fifth time in six games.
— Portland teammates CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic had 17 points apiece in a 99-82 win over the Nuggets. Damian Lillard had 15 points and seven assists for the Trail Blazers, who led by as many as 23 points and ended a two-game skid.
— The Lakers got a season-high 25 points from Jordan Clarkson in a 100-93 verdict over the Suns. Brook Lopez and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 15 apiece to help Los Angeles halt a three-game slide.
MLB-ROOKIES OF THE YEAR
Major League Baseball has announced its American and National League rookies of the year, and both were unanimous decisions.
Aaron Judge is the first New York Yankee since Derek Jeter in 1996 to win the AL Rookie of the Year Award in voting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Judge led the AL with a rookie-record 52 home runs last season while batting .284 with 114 RBIs and league highs of 128 runs scored, 127 walks and 208 strikeouts.
Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi finished second in the balloting, followed by Orioles slugger Trey Mancini.
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Cody Bellinger came away with the NL Rookie of the Year Award after batting .267 with 39 home runs and 97 RBIs last season. Bellinger is the second consecutive Dodger to receive the honor and the 18th since Jackie Robinson won the first award in 1947.
Cardinals middle infielder Paul DeJong finished second and Pirates first baseman Josh Bell was third in the voting.
Meanwhile, a former Rookie of the Year has called it quits.
Houston Astros outfielder and designated hitter Carlos Beltran has announced his retirement just 12 days after winning his first World Series. The nine-time All-Star revealed his decision in an essay written for The Players' Tribune website, ending a 20-year career in which he batted .279 with 435 home runs, 1,587 RBIs and 312 stolen bases.
Beltran captured the AL Rookie of the Year Award in 1999 and won three Gold Glove and two Silver Slugger awards.

— The Atlanta Braves have hired former Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays executive Alex Anthopoulos as their general manager. He succeeds John Coppolella, who was forced to resign on Oct. 2 after an ongoing investigation by Major League Baseball disclosed rule violations committed by the Braves in the international player market. Anthopoulos previously was the Blue Jays' GM and spent the last two yeras as the Dodgers' vice president of baseball operations.
— Royals manager Ned Yost spent Monday afternoon in a lounge chair, suffering from pain with a shattered pelvis. Just over a week ago, Yost was working in a hunting stand on his property near Atlanta recently when he reached to attach a safety line. The stand somehow collapsed and Yost fell about 20 feet to the ground, and the landing was so hard that he sustained a "massive fracture" to his pelvis and four broken ribs.
T25 MEN'S BASKETBALL-SCHEDULE
It was a nice showing for three of the newest members of Florida's men's basketball team.
Egor Koulechov nailed six 3-pointers and scored 34 points in his Gators debut to lead a 116-74 thrashing of Gardner Webb. The graduate transfer from Rice broke the school record for most points in a debut and finished with five rebounds to go with five assists.
Virginia Tech transfer Jalen Hudson had 16 points for the eighth-ranked Gators, while freshman Mike Okauru added 13 in the season opener.
Also on Monday's top-25 schedule:
— Senior center Shaquille Morris had 18 points and 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes to lead No. 6 Wichita State past College of Charleston 81-63. Fellow senior post players Rauno Nurger had 16 points and Darral Willis chipped in 14 while the duo helped the Shockers gain a 44-27 rebounding advantage.
— Tenth-ranked Southern California trailed by 10 in the first half and couldn't shake North Dakota State until the Trojans closed on a 13-5 run for a 75-65 win over the Bison. Bennie Boatwright scored a career-high 28 points for USC.
— Cincinnati's full-court pressure forced 22 turnovers as the 12th-ranked Bearcats doubled up Western Carolina 102-51. Jarron Cumberland scored 20 points and Kyle Washington added 14 points and seven rebounds in Cincy's 28th consecutive home win
— No. 13 Notre Dame whipped Mount St. Mary's 88-62 behind Bonzie Colson's 27 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Matt Farrell chipped in 12 points and five assists as the Fighting Irish improved to 18-0 in home debuts under coach Mike Brey.
— Jordan Murphy had 23 points and 14 rebounds in No 14 Minnesota's 86-74 victory at Providence. Nate Mason added 17 points and Amir Coffey finished with 15 for the Golden Gophers.
— No. 15 Xavier coasted to a 101-75 rout against Rider as Trevon Bluiett contributed 26 points and nine rebounds in the Musketeers' 32nd consecutive nonconference home win. Tyrique Jones scored 19 points and Xavier went on a 17-2 run in the second half after Rider cut a 19-point deficit to five.
— Bryant McIntosh scored 10 of his 17 points in the second half and 20th-ranked Northwestern overcame 17 turnovers to beat Saint Peter's 75-66. All five Wildcats starters scored in double figures as Dererk Pardon chipped in 15 points and Scottie Lindsay added 12 with six assists.
— Emmett Naar contributed 13 of his 22 points in the first half as No. 21 Saint Mary's outscored New Mexico State 92-74. Jock Landale added 20 points and 10 rebounds despite early foul trouble that helped the Aggies take an eight-point lead in the first half.
— Manu Lecomte scored 23 points No. 25 Baylor put together a 12-2 run in the second half to pull away in a 70-46 win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Terry Maston finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Bears.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL-POLL
Duke is still the top team in the first men's basketball poll of the regular season.
The Blue Devils have won their first two games since being installed as the No. 1 team in the preseason poll.
Duke picked up 34 of 65 first-place votes, second-ranked Michigan State claimed 13, No. 3 Arizona received 16 and No. 4 Kansas took two.
Fifth-ranked Villanova is followed by Wichita State, Kentucky, Florida, North Carolina and Southern California.
The UConn Huskies continue their run at No. 1 in the AP women's basketball poll following their rout of Stanford on Sunday. Texas is second, ahead of Baylor, South Carolina and Louisville.

UAlbany was victorious over Boston University last night, 88 to 74.
Cornell beat Binghamton 94 to 84.
Siena was defeated by Florida Gulf Coast 86 to 53.
And on the Women’s side:
Hartford was defeated by Delaware 72 to 63.
Jacksonville beat Iona 71 to 62.
Pittsburgh beat Cornell 51 to 39.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL-AUBURN-CORRUPTION
Two members of the Auburn men's basketball support staff have been placed on administrative leave because of an internal investigation into the program.
The school has issued a statement saying special assistant Jordan VerHulst and video coordinator Frankie Sullivan are on leave as the school continues its investigation into the men's basketball program. A law firm was hired by Auburn to review the program after former associate head coach Chuck Person's September arrest in a national federal investigation of corruption in college basketball.
NHL-SCHEDULE
The St. Louis Blues have cooled off a bit since taking over first place in the NHL's Western Conference overall standings.
The Calgary Flames erupted for five goals in the third period to beat the Blues 7-4. The game was tied 4-4 until Kris Versteeg, Johnny Gaudreau and Michael Frolik scored in the last 5 ½ minutes.
Mark Jankowski tallied twice in the first period and had an assist as the Flames won for the fifth time in six games.
The Blues have been outscored 12-6 while dropping two straight since a 7-1-0 stretch.
Elsewhere on NHL ice:
Teuvo Teravainen had a natural hat trick in the third period and set up another goal as the Hurricanes skated to a 5-1 victory over the Stars. Sebastian Aho scored once and had two assists for Carolina, which had been held to three goals or fewer in 12 of their first 15 games. Jordan Staal's four assists helped the Canes improve to 7-5-4.
SOCCER-WORLD CUP QUALIFYING
Four-time champion Italy has failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in six decades.
The Italians lost its playoff to Sweden 1-0 on aggregate after playing to a scoreless draw on Monday. Italy's only other exclusion in World Cup was in 1958.
Sweden has advanced to the World Cup for the first time since 2006.
NFL-COLIN KAEPERNICK-GQ
Free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been named GQ magazine's "Citizen of the Year" for his activism.
Kaepernick began kneeling instead of standing during the national anthem last season to protest racial inequality and police brutality. The demonstration sparked a wave of NFL protests by players during the anthem that repeatedly have been denounced by President Donald Trump..
