NYC MARATHON
Geoffrey Kamworor of Kenya has won the New York City Marathon, holding off countryman Wilson Kipsang by three seconds for his first major victory.
Kamworor ran the race in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 53 seconds.
Shalane Flanagan dethroned Mary Keitany and became the first American woman to win the New York marathon since 1977.
NFL
There was speculation that suggested the Philadelphia Eagles would be in trouble after losing offensive lineman Jason Peters to a season-ending injury late last month. So far, that notion has been unfounded.
The Eagles picked up their seventh straight win and improved to an NFL-best 8-1 as Carson Wentz threw for four more touchdowns in a 51-23 throttling of the Broncos. Wentz was 15 of 27 for 199 yards before taking a seat on the bench. He has thrown 17 of his league-leading 23 touchdown passes in the last five games.
Corey Clement had three touchdowns for the Eagles, who didn't allow Denver into the end zone until the fourth quarter. Jay Ajayi gained 77 yards on only eight carries, including a 46-yard scoring burst that made it 21-9 just before halftime.
Brock Osweiler threw for 208 yards, two TDs and two interceptions in his first game since being reacquired by the Broncos.
Denver is 3-5 following its fourth straight loss.
Also in the NFC East, Ezekiel Elliott took advantage of his latest courthouse reprieve by running for the go-ahead touchdown and finishing with 93 yards in the Cowboys' 28-17 comeback over the Chiefs.
The Cowboys wasted a 14-3 lead and trailed 17-14 before Elliott ran in from the Kansas City 2 in the third quarter. Terrance Williams had 141 yards on a career-high nine catches for the 5-3 Cowboys, including a 56-yarder that set up Dak Prescott's 10-yard TD run with 13 seconds left in the first half.
Tyreek Hill had a 57-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown in which he eluded seven Dallas defenders inside the 25, but the Chiefs ended a nine-game road winning streak and fell to 6-3.

— The Rams shredded through the Giants' defense while Jared Goff set career highs with four TD tosses and 311 yards passing in a 51-17 laugher at the Meadowlands. Todd Gurley had a pair of scoring runs as Los Angeles won for the fifth time in six games to improve to 6-2, the team's best record at the midway point since 2001. The Rams turned three Giants turnovers into 17 points and also scored a TD on a drive that followed a blocked punt.
— The Rams have sole possession of first place in the NFC West after the Seahawks gave up a one-yard scoring run to Rob Kelley with 59 seconds left in the Redskins' 17-14 triumph at Seattle. The Seahawks had just grabbed a 14-10 lead on Russell Wilson's second TD pass of the fourth quarter, a 30-yard strike to Doug Baldwin with 1:34 to play. Seattle fell to 5-3 despite outgaining the 4-4 Redskins 437 yards to 244.
— The Saints' winning streak climbed to six games as Drew Brees was 22-of-27 for 263 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-10 rout of the Buccaneers. Alvin Kamara grabbed a 33-yard TD pass from Brees and also scored on a six-yard run to help New Orleans hand the 2-6 Bucs their fifth consecutive loss. Kamara finished with 172 yards from scrimmage for the Saints, who also scored on Justin Hardee's seven-yard return of his own blocked punt.
— The 6-3 Panthers remain a half-game behind the NFC South-leading Saints after Cam Newton rushed for 86 yards and a TD in a 20-17 victory against Atlanta. Carolina ran for 201 yards, including a career-high 66 and a touchdown from rookie Christian McCaffrey. Devin Funchess had 86 yards on five receptions in his first game as Carolina's No. 1 receiver after the team traded Kelvin Benjamin earlier in the week.
— The Jaguars are 5-3 after holding the Bengals to a season-low 148 yards in a 23-7 win against Cincinnati. Blake Bortles threw for 259 yards and a touchdown to help the Jaguars stay tied with Tennessee for first place in the AFC South. Marqise Lee had his first TD reception of the season and Jaydon Mickens returned a punt 63 yards for a score that put the game away in the fourth quarter.
— The Titans picked up their third straight win as Marcus Mariota passed for 218 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-20 decision over the Ravens. Derrick Henry ran for a 1-yard TD and safety Kevin Byard intercepted two passes for the 5-3 Titans, giving the second-year pro five picks over his past two games. Tennessee also sacked Joe Flacco twice and scored 13 points off Byard's first interception and a shanked punt to drop Baltimore to 4-5.
— T.Y. Hilton had 175 yards receiving with two touchdowns to help the Colts beat the Texans 20-14 and end a three-game skid. Jacoby Brissett threw for 308 yards filling in for Andrew Luck, who was placed on injured reserve on Thursday and will miss the season after having shoulder surgery in January. Tom Savage threw a fourth-quarter touchdown pass for Houston, but he was just 19 of 44 for 219 yards in his first game since starting quarterback DeShaun Watson sustained a season-ending knee injury.
— Adrian Peterson provided the spark in the Cardinals' 20-10 victory against the winless 49ers, carrying a career-high 37 times for 159 yards. Drew Stanton threw two scoring passes in the opening half of his first start of the season in place of the injured Carson Palmer. C.J. Beathard ran for a touchdown and was 24 of 51 for 294 yards while new Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo stayed on the sidelines.
— Derek Carr threw for 300 yards and Marshawn Lynch scored on a 22-yard run as the Raiders knocked off the Dolphins 27-24 at Miami. Carr went 21 of 30 with one touchdown and one interception to help Oakland end Miami's string of 12 straight wins in games decided by seven points of less. Jay Cutler connected on his first 16 psases following a one-game absence and finished with 311 yards and three scores, but the 4-4 Dolphins lost their second in a row.
NBA-SCHEDULE
The Cleveland Cavaliers have continued their disappointing start with an eyebrow-raising home loss to the worst team in the NBA's Eastern Conference.
Dennis Schroeder scored 28 points and the injury-riddled Atlanta Hawks ended an eight-game losing streak with a 117-115 win against the Cavs. The Hawks blew most of a 16-point lead in the second half before earning their first victory since their season opener against Dallas. Schroeder scored 11 straight points in the third quarter to keep Atlanta ahead.
LeBron James had 26 points and 13 assists after erupting for an NBA season-high 57 points in Friday's win at Washington. Kyle Korver scored 19 of his 23 points in the final period before Cleveland suffered its fifth loss in seven games.

— It's an eight-game winning streak for the Celtics after Jaylen Brown delivered 18 points and Al Horford added 14 and 10 rebounds in a 104-88 decision over the Magic. Marcus Morris had 14 points in his second game of the season to help the Eastern Conference leaders stay unbeaten since their 0-2 start.
— LaMarcus Aldridge dropped in 21 points and the Spurs outscored the Suns 34-13 in the third quarter to pull away in a 112-95 win over Phoenix. Patty Mills scored 11 of his 17 points in the pivotal third period to help San Antonio win its second straight since a four-game skid.
— James Harden hit his first seven 3-point tries and scored a career-high 56 points while adding 13 assists in just 35 minutes as the Rockets clobbered the Jazz 137-110. Eric Gordon scored 20 points, Trevor Ariza had 14 and Nene scored 13 off the bench in Houston's third consecutive win.
— The Timberwolves are 7-3 after Jeff Teague contributed 18 points and 12 assists to their fifth straight victory, 112-94 over the Hornets. Andrew Wiggins had a team-high 20 points for Minnesota, which hadn't won five in a row since January 2009.
— The Trail Blazers rode Damian Lillard's 36 points and 13 assists to a 103-99 victory against the Thunder. Jusuf Nurkic had 25 points on 11 of 15 shooting and hauled in eight rebounds for Portland.
— Kristaps Porzingis scored a career-high 40 points and the Knicks came back from 19 down to beat the Pacers 108-101. Porzingis added eight rebounds and six blocked shots in his seventh 30-point performance in nine games this season.
— The Wizards were 107-96 winners at Toronto behind Bradley Beal's 38 points. Otto Porter chipped in 19 points to help Washington win without John Wall, who sprained his left shoulder in Friday's loss to Cleveland.
— The Lakers won for the third time in four games as Brook Lopez hit for 21 points and Brandon Ingram added 20 in a 107-102 verdict over the Grizzlies. Rookie Kyle Kuzma had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Los Angeles, which squandered most of a 22-point lead.
— The Heat coughed up a 25-point lead before James Johnson drained a pair of free throws with 8.7 seconds left to put Miami ahead to stay in a 104-101 triumph over the Clippers. Hassan Whiteside had 21 points and 17 rebounds for the Heat.
NHL-SCHEDULE
The New York Islanders had been getting very little offense from their blueline this season before Nick Leddy, Johnny Boychuk and Scott Mayfield broke out against the Avalanche on Sunday.
Nick Leddy and forward Jordan Eberle each scored twice as the Isles whipped Colorado 6-4. Leddy headed a New York blueline that provided four goals and eight points, with Johnny Boychuk and Scott Mayfield each adding a goal and an assist.
The Islanders also went 2-for-2 on the power play, leaving them 7-for-16 in their last four games after opening the season 2-for-33.
Matthew Barzal set a team rookie record with five assists as New York improved to 5-0-1 at home.
Elsewhere on NHL ice:
— Petr Mrazek handled 36 shots and the Red Wings moved back to .500 by blanking the Oilers 4-0 in Edmonton. Martin Frk and Anthony Mantha each had a goal and an assist in Detroit's third win in four games.
— Charlie Lindgren turned back 38 shots in his first career shutout as the Canadiens topped the Blackhawks 2-0. Chicago netminder Corey Crawford had gone over 173 minutes without allowing a goal until Jonathan Drouin beat him 1:54 into the third period.
— Sean Monahan had a goal and an assist before scoring once in the shootout to help the Flames down the Devils 5-4. New Jersey has dropped two straight on the road after opening the season 5-0 away from Newark.
NHL-TRADE
Matt Duchene is an Ottawa Senator and Kyle Turris is a Nashville Predator following a pair of NHL trades on Sunday.
The Avalanche sent Duchene to the Canadian capital and received three players and three draft picks. The Senators sent prospect Shane Bowers, goaltender Andrew Hammond and a 2018 first- and 2019 third-round pick to Colorado. Nashville acquired Turris from the Senators and sent top prospects Samuel Girardi and Vladislav Kamenev to the Avs, along with a 2018 second-round pick.
Duchene has four goals and six assists in 13 games this season and 178 goals and 250 assists in 585 NHL games, all with Colorado. Turris has scored 117 goals and 274 points in 407 career games, including three goals and six assists this season.
NASCAR-TEXAS
Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. have wrapped up championship spots in NASCAR's finale with their 1-2 finish at Texas Motor Speedway.
Harvick went around the outside of Truex for the lead with 10 laps remaining to win Sunday's Cup series race. Truex had led 107 laps and was still up front until his bobble on the backstretch allowed Harvick to take the lead.
Harvick and Kyle Busch clinched championship shots with their wins during the third round of the playoffs. That leaves only one spot up for grabs next week at Phoenix.
UALBANY FOOTBALL
The University at Albany football team dropped a 28-21 decision in overtime to host Stony Brook on Saturday at LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook. The Great Danes, who have now dropped five straight games, dipped to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Great Danes are on the road against Delaware at 3:30 p.m. next Saturday.
T25-COLLEGE FOOTBALL POLL
The latest AP college football poll looks much different from last week's, although Alabama and Georgia continue to hold the top two spots.
The top-ranked Crimson Tide claimed 56 of 61 first-place votes, while the Bulldogs took the remaining five. After that, it's Notre at No. 3, followed by Clemson and Oklahoma. Wisconsin, Miami, TCU, Washington and Auburn round out the top 10.
Ohio State slid eight spots to 11th with Saturday's 55-24 loss at Iowa. Penn State fell nine places to 16th after falling to Michigan State.
MLB-GIANTS-CUETO
The San Francisco Giants will continue to have Johnny Cueto in their starting rotation.
The right-hander has picked up the player option on his contract that runs through 2021. Cueto decided to stay put after going 8-8 with a 4.52 ERA in 25 starts while battling injuries this year.
PGA-SHRINERS
Patrick Cantlay picked up his first PGA victory by staking the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in a playoff.
The 25-year-old former UCLA star hit from behind a tree and got up-and-down for par from off the back of the 18th green to beat Alex Cejka and Whee Kim on the second extra hole.
Cantlay bogeyed the final two holes of regulation for a 5-under 67 to get in at 9-under 275 at windy TPC Summerlin.
