#SportsReport: Nashville Ties Series With Pittsburgh After 4-1 Win

Nashville Predators Goalie Pekka Rinne

NBA:

Tomorrow Golden State will attempt another win over the Cavaliers. The Warriors lead the series 2-0.

NHL:

In the Stanley Cup playoffs, Nashville beat Pittsburgh 4-1 to tie the series at 2 games apiece. Game 5 is Thursday at 8 p.m. in Pittsburgh.

A federal judge in Chicago has dismissed a wrongful death lawsuit filed by former NHL player Derek Boogard's parents, who blamed the league for his brain damage and addiction to prescription painkillers. Boogard was a feared enforcer during his six years with the New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild. He died of an accidental overdose of pain medication and alcohol in 2011. In dismissing the lawsuit yesterday, the judge said, in part, that Boogard's parents didn't prove the NHL was negligent.

New York Rangers forward Jesper Fast has undergone successful left hip surgery and will be out for about five months. The 25-year-old Fast skated in 68 regular-season games last season, scoring six goals and adding 15 assists. The defensive forward and standout penalty killer had a plus-6 rating.

MLB:

Baseball has paired with a new provider this season to create custom socks for almost every MLB team. The new-look socks include special occasion designs for events like Mother's Day and the upcoming All-Star Game.

NFL:

The New York Jets have signed wide receiver Devin Street and placed wide receiver Quinton Patton on injured reserve. The team announced the moves yesterday, but didn't disclose the nature of Patton's injury. Street played in five games last season with the Indianapolis Colts, catching one pass for 20 yards. He was a fifth-round draft pick of Dallas in 2014 out of the University of Pittsburgh.

New York Giants backup receiver Roger Lewis Jr. was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence over the weekend. Reynoldsburg police say Lewis was arrested early Sunday morning after his 2012 Audi was stopped for several alleged violations. The police report says Lewis was suspected of using alcohol. The report notes that a small amount of marijuana was found.

Hank Williams Jr. is bringing his rowdy friends back to "Monday Night Football" six years after ESPN dropped the country singer for his comments about President Barack Obama. ESPN says a new version of Williams' longtime "MNF" theme and its "Are you ready for some football?" catchphrase will debut before the first regular-season Monday night game _ a Sept. 11 matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings.

Because of Aaron Hernandez's death, Massachusetts lawmakers are re-examining a legal custom that allows for criminal convictions to be erased when a defendant dies before an appeal can be heard. Bills have been filed that would change the practice of automatic dismissals. The former NFL star's murder conviction was tossed after he took his life in prison.

PGA:

Steve Stricker, the most prolific PGA Tour winner from Wisconsin, earned a spot in Wisconsin's first U.S. Open. Stricker posted rounds of 67-65 in the sectional qualifier in Tennessee.

NCAA:

Scott Hurst and Chris Hudgins both homered and Cal State-Fullerton beat host Stanford 4-2 to eliminate the Cardinal and win the regional title. Hurst hit a two-run shot in the second inning to give Cal State-Fullerton a 3-0 lead and Colton Eastman gave up just two hits and one unearned run over 6 2/3 innings.

Brent Rooker and Cody Brown each had three RBIs, and Mississippi State beat host Southern Miss 8-6 in Game 7 of the Hattiesburg Regional to advance to the super regional. Mississippi State won four games in two days _ including two against Southern Miss to advance to play No. 4 national seed LSU.

Kole Cottam's go-ahead, two-run double highlighted a three-run seventh inning that rallied Kentucky past North Carolina State 10-5 to clinch the NCAA baseball tournament's Lexington Regional. The top-seeded Wildcats earned their first NCAA super regional berth and will face in-state rival Louisville.

Will Toffey homered twice and drove in five runs as Vanderbilt defeated Clemson 8-0 to win the Clemson Regional and advance to the NCAA baseball tournament's super regional next weekend. The Commodores will take on top-overall NCAA seed Oregon State. Matt Ruppenthal led three Vanderbilt pitchers who held the Tigers to four hits.

Will Zirzow threw a two-hitter and Florida State advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals for the 16th time with a 6-0 win over Auburn in the deciding baseball game of the Tallahassee Regional. The junior right-hander allowed only three baserunners en route to striking out a career-high 11. The Seminoles will host Sam Houston State this weekend.

Jacob Billingsley allowed one run in his first career complete game, Josh Lovelady highlighted a four-RBI performance with his first home run of the season, and Mississippi State beat Southern Miss 8-1 to force a winner-take-all game in the NCAA tournament's Hattiesburg Regional. Mississippi State (39-25) won a third straight game while facing elimination.

Stephen Kolek struck out nine and pitched into the ninth inning as Texas A&M beat Houston 4-3 to earn its third straight NCAA super regional berth. The Aggies likely will host next weekend against surprise regional winner Davidson. Houston was scoreless until Corey Julks homered in the ninth, then scored two more times before Aggies reliever Cason Sherrod struck out the final batter with two runners still on base.

Florida's pitching staff might finally have met its match in Oklahoma just in time for the Women's College World Series. The Gators haven't allowed an earned run in three games at the series, with the best-of-three championship series up next. The Florida ace is Kelly Barnhill. Oklahoma counters with Paige Parker, a second-team All-American who was the most outstanding player at last year's World Series.

Jeremy Eierman hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and Missouri State beat Arkansas 3-2 in the NCAA baseball tournament to earn the Bears their third super regional appearance in school history. Missouri State last reached a super regional in 2015.
