#SportsReport: Giants End Cowboys 11-Game Winning Streak

NFL:

In the NFL, with a no-huddle offense and no-fooling-around defense, the New York Giants snapped the Cowboys' 11-game winning streak with a 10-7 victory Sunday night, preventing Dallas from clinching the NFC East. Meanwhile Pittsburgh beat Buffalo 27-20, the Jets won against San Francisco in overtime 23-17, Atlanta crushed Los Angeles 42-14, Tampa Bay beat New Orleans 16-11, Green Bay bested Seattle 38-10, Cincinnati topped Cleveland 23-10, Houston beat Indianapolis 22-17, Minnesota trumped Jacksonville 25-16, Carolina beat San Diego 28-16, Detroit defeated Chicago 20-17, Tennessee beat Denver 13-10, Miami beat Arizona 13-10, and it was Washington over Philadelphia 27-22.

On Monday Night Football, Baltimore is in New England at 8:30 p.m.

A Louisiana man has been found guilty of manslaughter in the April shooting death of former Saints star Will Smith. Cardell Hayes also was found guilty of attempted manslaughter for wounding Smith's wife, wrapping up a week-long trial. Hayes had claimed he fired only after an irate and drunken Smith punched him and then retrieved a gun from his damaged SUV following their car accident.

NHL:

In the NHL, the Rangers shut out New Jersey 5-0, Colorado won against Toronto 3-1, Chicago beat Dallas 3-1, Edmonton skated past Winnipeg 3-2, Minnesota bested St. Louis 3-1, Washington blanked Vancouver 3-0, Philadelphia won against Detroit in a shootout 1-0, and it was Anaheim over Ottawa 5-1.

The NHL has handed down two-game suspensions to Ottawa defenseman Mark Borowiecki and Dallas blueliner Jamie Oleksiak. Borowiecki has been punished boarding Kings forward Tyler Toffoli in the first period of Saturday's 4-1 win by Los Angeles. Oleksiak has been suspended for an illegal check to the head of Philadelphia forward Chris VandeVelde in the third period of the Stars' 4-2 loss on Saturday.

NBA:

In the NBA, the Knicks topped the Lakers 118-112, Oklahoma City won against Boston 99-96, Philadelphia beat Detroit 97-79, New Orleans edged Phoenix 120-119, and it was Golden State over Minnesota 116-108.

The Boston Celtics got a scare when they were told of a bomb threat on their private flight to Oklahoma City. The Boston Globe reports the plane landed safely around 5:00 p.m. at Will Rogers World Airport, where players were told to leave their bags and proceed to their hotel. The FBI's Oklahoma City field office said late Saturday that a thorough search of the aircraft "did not locate an explosive device" and that the agency is investigating the incident. The Boston Globe says only a few team executives were aware of the threat during the flight and that others in the party were informed upon landing in Oklahoma City, where the Celtics face the Thunder on Sunday. The team departed for Oklahoma City from Bedford, Massachusetts.

NCAA:

Lamar Jackson has snared college football's highest honor, becoming the first Louisville player to capture the Heisman Trophy. The sophomore quarterback accounted for a whopping 51 touchdowns this season, throwing for 30 and running for 21. He passed for 3,390 yards and had 1,538 yards on the ground to help the 15th-ranked Cardinals go 9-3 during the regular season. Jackson's victory was the seventh largest in Heisman history. He became the youngest winner at 19 years, 352 days, a few days younger than 2013 winner Jameis Winston of Florida State.

NCAA officials plan to hand-deliver an award to the former Boston College baseball captain who inspired the Ice Bucket Challenge phenomenon that raised millions of dollars for ALS research. The collegiate sports organization says Pete Frates can't attend an awards celebration in Nashville, Tennessee, this January to accept the 2017 Inspiration Award because the neurodegenerative disease is progressing.

The annual Army-Navy game has been won by the Black Knights for the first time since 2001. Army blew a 14-point halftime lead before quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw scored on a 9-yard run with 6:42 left to give the Cadets a 21-17 triumph over the Midshipmen. Army ended its 14-game losing streak to Navy by relying on its ground game as Andy Davidson ran for 87 yards and a pair of first-half touchdowns. Kell Walker added 92 yards on 16 carries for the Black Knights, who threw the ball just four times for 35 yards and an interception. Army trails the overall series 60-50-7 following its first victory over Navy in Baltimore since 1944.

In men’s college basketball, UAlbany faces Canisius at 7 p.m.

In women’s college basketball, Post is in Albany to take on the Great Danes at 7 p.m., Siena goes up against Sacred Heart at 7 p.m.

Sixth-ranked Kentucky went into Brooklyn on Sunday and came out with its ninth win in 10 games. Malik Monk scored 20 points and Isaiah Briscoe added 19 as the Wildcats ripped Hofstra, 96-73. De'Aaron Fox chipped in 15 points for Kentucky, which took control with a 26-3 run midway through the game. The spurt came after the Pride got within 36-33 with four minutes left in the first half.

In other top-25 finals:

— North Carolina struggled with Tennessee before Justin Jackson scored the go-ahead basket with 2:14 left to help the seventh-ranked Tar Heels beat the Vols, 73-71. Kenny Williams III had 12 points for the Tar Heels, who trailed by 15 before improving to 10-1.

— No. 12 Saint Mary's bounced back from its first loss of the season as Jock Landale had 15 points and seven rebounds in an 84-53 romp over UC Irvine. Evan Fitzner added a season-high 12 points to match teammate Jordan Ford's total.

— Florida State beat a neighbor as Dwayne Bacon scored 24 points and Terrence Mann contributed 16 in the Seminoles' 83-78 triumph over No. 23 Florida. The game was tied at 38 until Bacon scored nine points during a 15-4 early in the second half.

— Dylan Ennis hit the tiebreaking 3-pointer as the shot clock expired before No. 24 Oregon completed a 63-56 triumph over Alabama. Tyler Dorsey scored 19 points to help the Ducks won their sixth in a row since a 2-2 start.

MLS:

The Seattle Sounders are MLS champions for the first time. Roman Torres scored in the sixth round of penalty kicks to give the Sounders a 5-4 victory over Toronto FC after 120 scoreless minutes. The flurry of shootout goals came after Seattle became the first team in MLS Cup final history to fail to produce a shot on target throughout the game. Former Toronto FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei was named the game's MVP.
