NFL:
On Monday Night Football, Philadelphia bested Chicago 29-14.
Patriots players sound confident in the team's third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who could make his first career NFL start against Houston Thursday night. Receiver Danny Amendola says Brissett grasps what the Patriots are trying to do. The rookie Brissett would start if Jimmy Garoppolo can't go after injuring his shoulder Sunday.
New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall says his hurt left knee is feeling better and he hopes to play against Kansas City Sunday. Coach Todd Bowles isn't certain Marshall will be OK to play but yesterday denied a report that he hurt the MCL in the knee. Marshall did not practice Monday.
The Seahawks have been punished for violating the labor agreement concerning live contact in the offseason. Head coach Pete Carroll has been fined $200,000 for the violation, while the team has been fined $400,000 and stripped of a fifth-round draft choice. In addition, the Seahawks will lose a week of organized team activities for allowing excessive contact. A review of the team's on-field practice video from June 6 led the league and the Players Association to agree that the Seahawks ignored the rules.
Two weeks after acquiring a new quarterback, the Minnesota Vikings could spend time without one of the NFL's top running backs. Head coach Mike Zimmer tells local radio station KFXN-FM that Adrian Peterson tore the meniscus in his right knee during Sunday's 17-14 win over Green Bay. However, Zimmer also said on his weekly radio appearance that he hasn't ruled out Peterson for Sunday's game against Carolina, and that the team was still exploring all scenarios to treat their top offensive weapon. Peterson needed crutches to exit the stadium after managing just 19 yards on 12 carries versus Green Bay. Minus Peterson, the Vikings managed to beat their arch-rivals as Sam Bradford threw for 286 yards and two touchdowns in his Minnesota debut.
In other injury news:
— The Browns are down to third-string quarterback Cody Kessler and veteran backup Charlie Whitehurst now that Josh McCown is out indefinitely after sustaining a sprained left shoulder during Sunday's loss to Baltimore. McCown's injury comes just a week after Robert Griffin III broke a bone in his left shoulder during the season opener at Philadelphia. Kessler will make his first NFL start Sunday against Miami and will be backed up by Whitehurst, who worked out a deal with the Browns following a tryout on Monday.
— Chargers running back Danny Woodhead is done for the year after tearing the ACL in his right knee during Sunday's win over the Jaguars. Woodhead was hurt when he was tackled after a catch in the first quarter, one week after wide receiver Keenan Allen suffered the same injury.
— The Detroit Lions have released tight end Andrew Quarless after he served a two-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. Quarless never played a game for the Lions, who signed him in August while Eric Ebron was recovering from an injury. Quarless was sentenced to a year of probation and fined $1,000 for firing a gun in Miami Beach, Florida, last year.
— Broncos coach Gary Kubiak says linebacker DeMarcus Ware will have surgery for a broken arm Tuesday and will miss four or five weeks. Ware was injured during Sunday's win over Indianapolis.
— Falcons coach Dan Quinn says All-Pro receiver Julio Jones had an MRI on his right calf but is expected to be ready for next Monday's game at New Orleans. Jones was hurt during Sunday's win at Oakland.

— Washington nose tackle Kedric Golston has been placed on injured reserve with a right hamstring injury suffered in Sunday's game against Dallas. The 11-year NFL veteran was hurt on the first play from scrimmage in a 27-23 loss to the Cowboys.

There's an array of Tebow apparel being offered through the Mets' website, ranging from $29.99 for T-shirts to $119.99 for a replica big league jersey. Tebow had his first workout Monday with the Mets' instructional league team. He says he's aware the Mets were planning to sell shirts with his name on the back. Majestic, the uniform provider for Major League Baseball, tweeted an image of the jersey. The Mets' site said two of the five offered Tebow items were among the current top sellers as of early Monday evening. Tebow said his appearance at instructional league wasn't a stunt. The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL quarterback has a book scheduled to be released next month.
The Mets say Steven Matz could rejoin the rotation for Sunday's game against Philadelphia, New York's home finale. Manager Terry Collins says Matz won't go deep into the game, although he added that the team needs to make sure the lefty will be capable of working more than two innings. Matz hasn't pitched since Aug. 14 because of shoulder tightness.

US Bobsled:
Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay is entered in this week's USA Bobsled National Push Championships, making him the latest track star to give sledding a try. The push championships start Wednesday in Calgary, Alberta and are the first step toward a potential spot on this season's national team.
Gay has competed in each of the last three Summer Olympics. He was part of a team that won a silver medal in the 4x100-meter relay at the London Games in 2012, though that medal was ultimately stripped after Gay tested positive for steroids at the U.S. championships in 2013 and served a one-year suspension. He also had all results annulled going back to July 15, 2012, a period that included that year's Olympic competition.
One of the runners that lost his London silver medal because of Gay's positive test was Ryan Bailey, another bobsled rookie who is scheduled to compete in the push championships. Bailey earlier impressed coaches after winning the preliminary championships on dry land last month at New York's Lake Placid. This week's competition takes place on ice.
Longtime U.S. hurdles star Lolo Jones will be in the women's push competition, as will 2014 Olympic bronze medalist Aja Evans.

New York City FC says midfielder Frank Lampard is expected to be sidelined for three-to-four weeks after straining a muscle in his left calf. The 38-year-old, a former English national team star, has 12 goals this season.
