Tennis:
Novak Djokovic has his career Grand Slam. After losing the first set to second seed Andy Murray, the top-seeded Djokovic roared back to win the French Open men's singles championship 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.
The victory gives him a win in each of the four majors: the Australian and U.S. Opens, Wimbledon and now the French. He is the first man to achieve the milestone of winning four straight majors since Rod Laver in 1969.
A crowd favorite in Paris the fans kept cheering, "Nole, Nole, Nole," which is his nickname.
The appearance in the French final was his fourth and proved to be the winner. After losing in Paris last year, he has won 28 straight Grand Slam matches from Wimbledon to the U.S. Open last year to the Australian Open and now the French Open this year.
Before the match began, the fans stood and paid tribute to Muhammad Ali, who passed away Friday at the age of 74.
NBA:
In the NBA finals, Golden State bested Cleveland 110-77.
MLB:
In baseball, in the American League, Baltimore beat the Yankees 3-1, Toronto edged Boston 5-4, Houston bested Oakland 5-2, Tampa Bay won against Minnesota 7-5, Texas slid past Seattle 3-2, Cleveland blanked Kansas City 7-0, and it was Detroit over the White Sox 5-2.
In the National League, Miami shut out the Mets 1-0, Arizona edged the Cubs 3-2, the Dodgers doubled up Atlanta 12-6, St. Louis beat San Francisco 6-3, Colorado topped San Diego 10-3, Washington edged Cincinnati 10-9, Philadelphia bested Milwaukee 8-1, and it was Arizona over the Cubs 3-2.
In interleague play, the Angels beat Pittsburgh 5-4.
The Pawtucket Red Sox and city and state officials are seeking proposals to study what it would take to upgrade McCoy Stadium. The Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate plans to hold a joint press conference at the stadium Monday. A team spokesman said in a statement the study would determine the "needs, upgrades, improvements and the associated costs" of the team's current home.
WNBA:
In the WNBA, the Liberty beat Seattle 86-78, Washington won against Atlanta 86-79, and it was Indiana over Connecticut 88-77.
NASCAR:
Rain has postponed the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway until Monday. Brad Keselowski will start on the pole in Pocono's first Monday race since 2009. The 2012 rain-shortened race at Pocono was marred by lightning strikes that killed one fan and injured nine others. This is the first postponed Cup race of the season and ninth since 2011.
IndyCar:
Will Power raced to his first IndyCar victory of the season by holding off points leader Simon Pagenaud at Detroit's Belle Isle. Power also won Saturday's event in Detroit and would have set a track record in qualifying on Sunday, but the Australian was penalized for interference and had his top two laps taken away. Pagenaud won the pole and Power started eighth, but Power prevailed in the end for his 26th career victory and first since the Grand Prix of Indianapolis in May 2015.
PGA:
William McGirt has finally claimed his first PGA victory by rolling in a 6-foot par putt on the second extra hole to beat Jon Curran and capture the Memorial at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio. McGirt played the final 22 holes without a bogey before securing his first win in 165 PGA starts. He closed with a 1-under 71 that left him 15-under for the tournament. The win vaults him to 43rd in the world ranking, putting him into the U.S. Open at Oakmont in two weeks. Curran's final-round 70 allowed him to finish one stroke ahead of Dustin Johnson. Rory McIlroy was among those two shots behind.
Scott McCarron birdied his final three holes for a 7-under 65 and a one-shot win over Miguel Angel Jimenez and Billy Andrade at the Principal Charity Classic in Des Moines. McCarron won for the first time since taking the 2001 Bellsouth Classic, the last of his three PGA Tour titles. Andrade had a 68 after shooting a course-record 63 on Saturday.
LPGA:
Anna Nordqvist successfully defended her ShopRite LPGA Classic title by finishing 17 under par. She closed out the tournament with a final-round 7-under 64 in breezy conditions for a one-stroke victory over Hana Numura, who shot a 66.
NFL:
The Denver Broncos say star cornerback Aqib Talib is OK and recovering after being shot in the lower right leg at a Dallas nightclub early Sunday morning. The team issued a statement saying Talib is expected to be released from the hospital soon and make a full recovery. Police told The Dallas Morning News that Talib was one of two people shot in an altercation at the club and that both victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening wounds. Talib's 30 interceptions and eight pick-6s are tops in the league since 2008, his rookie year in Tampa Bay.
NCAA:
Boston College scored three runs in the second inning and never trailed to beat Tulane 6-3 in the NCAA Tournament's Oxford Regional championship game Sunday night. The Eagles completed a perfect regional with their third win in three days. The program advances to the Super Regional round of 16 for the first time in school history.
