2016 NBA All-Star Logo

NBA:

In the highest-scoring NBA All-Star Game ever, the West posted a 196-173 victory over the East in Kobe Bryant's final All-Star appearance of his stellar 20-year career. Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook won the MVP Award for the second straight year. Westbrook had 31 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Legends Brunch at All-Star weekend. Robertson got the award from fellow Hall of Famer Magic Johnson and Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Karl-Anthony Towns — the newly crowned skills challenge winner at All-Star weekend.

NHL:

In the NHL, Buffalo beat Colorado 4-1, New Jersey blanked Los Angeles 1-0, Detroit edged Boston 6-5, the Rangers won against Philadelphia 3-1, and it was St. Louis over Tampa Bay 2-1.

Bruins star Patrice Bergeron missed his second consecutive game yesterday with an undisclosed injury. The Bruins did not provide details on why Bergeron wasn't playing against Detroit. He also sat out yesterday at Minnesota.

The Chicago Blackhawks have placed Marian Hossa on injured reserve. He was hurt when he was hit by Anaheim defenseman Hampus Lindholm on his lower left leg in the second period of Chicago's 3-2 loss Saturday night. The 37-year-old winger, sitting on 496 career goals, had to be helped off the ice and went straight to the locker room.

PGA:

Phil Mickelson missed a five-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole of the final round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am that would have sent him to a playoff against Vaughn Taylor. Instead, Taylor won his first PGA Tour title in 11 years and Mickelson remains winless since capturing the British Open at Muirfield in 2013.

Tennis:

There's something about Memphis that agrees with Kei Nishikori of Japan. He won his fourth straight Memphis Open title by beating American teen Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4.

NASCAR:

Chase Elliott, the 20-year-old son of Hall of Famer Bill Elliott, is the youngest driver to win the pole for the Daytona 500. Matt Kenseth was the second fastest qualifier and will join Elliott on the first row in next Sunday's Daytona 500.

U.S. Olympics:

Thomas Barrows of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Joe Morris of Annapolis, Maryland, have earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic sailing team in the 49er class, while Bora Gulari of Detroit and Louisa Chafee of Warwick, Rhode Island, won a spot in the Nacra 17 catamaran class. The crews were selected based on their combined scores from January's Sailing World Cup Miami and the world championships in Clearwater that concluded yesterday.

NCAA:

In college men's basketball, Syracuse beat Boston College 75-61 yesterday for its fifth straight win. Tyler Lydon scored 10 of his 20 points during a game-breaking run midway into the second half for Syracuse. Freshman Matt Milon led Boston College with a season-high 25 points.

UAlbany crushed Maine 108-64 yesterday. Ray Sanders scored 22 points for Albany. Issac Vann led Maine with 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Aaron Calixte had 12 points and Till Gloger added 10.

Massachusetts outlasted Duquesne in overtime 108-99 yesterday. Jabarie Hinds scored a career-high 37 points for Massachusetts. Micah Mason led Duquesne with 29 points and 10 assists, both career bests. L.G. Gill added 20 points.

Vermont beat Hartford 92-81 yesterday to snap a two-game losing streak. Kurt Steidl scored a career-high 26 points for Vermont. Pancake Thomas scored 35 points for Hartford, which lost its seventh straight.

UMass Lowell edged Maryland-Baltimore County 96-92 yesterday. Logan Primerano scored 14 of his career-high 29 points in the last 4:17 for UMass Lowell. Jahad Thomas added 23 points, while Isaac White had 15.

In college women's basketball, Number 1 UConn beat scrappy Temple 85-60 yesterday for the Huskies' 61st straight victory. Moriah Jefferson had 25 points, eight assists and eight steals. Breanna Stewart added 24 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six blocks for the Huskies.
