Super Bowl L will take place on Sunday in San Francisco when the Denver Broncos go head to head with the Carolina Panthers at 6:30 p.m.

NBA:

In the NBA, Detroit topped New York 111-105, Houston won against Phoenix 111-105, the Lakers bested New Orleans 99-96, and it was Toronto over Portland 110-103.

NHL:

In the NHL, Boston skated past Buffalo in a shootout 3-2, the Rangers doubled up Minnesota 4-2, Toronto edged New Jersey in a shootout 3-2, Washington topped the Islanders 3-2, Philadelphia doubled up Nashville 6-3, Dallas won against Colorado in overtime 4-3, Anaheim beat Los Angeles 4-2, Columbus edged Vancouver in a shootout 2-1, Chicago beat Arizona in overtime 5-4, San Jose topped St. Louis 3-1, Edmonton blasted Ottawa 7-2, Florida doubled up Detroit 6-2.

NCAA:

In college men's basketball, Connecticut used a second-half burst to defeat Memphis 77-57 last night. Daniel Hamilton had 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Shonn Miller scored 12 of his 14 points after the break for UConn. The Huskies outscored Memphis 41-20 after the Tigers took a lead into halftime. Hamilton also had eight assists.

William & Mary made free throws when it counted to defeat Northeastern 86-77 last night for its third straight win. Omar Prewitt scored a season-high 28 points, and Daniel Dixon added 20 for William & Mary. Jeremy Miller led Northeastern with a career-high 23 points, and David Walker added 19 with each hitting four of the Huskies' 12 3-pointers in 27 attempts.

Quinnipiac defeated Marist 79-53 last night. Andrew Robinson scored 15 points on five 3-pointers, and Daniel Harris added 13. Harris and Robinson started an early run with four straight 3-pointers — two each — as Quinnipiac held Marist to a single point for more than three minutes on its way to building a 47-25 lead by halftime.

Sacred Heart held off St. Francis Brooklyn to earn a 74-70 Northeast Conference victory last night. Cane Broome scored 28 points. Tevin Falzon finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for Sacred Heart. Tyreek Jewell finished with 29 points to lead St. Francis.

Central Connecticut opened a four-game road trip with a 65-60 win over Robert Morris last night. Khalen Cumberlander and Austin Nehls combined for 35 points for Central Connecticut. Isaiah Still scored 19 points to lead Robert Morris.

Providence coach Ed Cooley says forward Ben Bentil is day-to-day after sustaining a right ankle injury. Bentil sat out the 11th-ranked Friars' practice yesterday and will continue to be evaluated as Providence prepares to host Number 3 Villanova tomorrow.

Fantasy Sports:

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin says daily fantasy sports are legal under state law. Kilmartin says he conducted a review and has forwarded the findings to fellow Democrats Governor Gina Raimondo, Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed and House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello.
