NFL:
On Thursday Night Football, San Diego is in Oakland at 8:25.
The New York Giants have re-signed safety Brandon Meriweather. The team announced that the veteran was signed yesterday with the status of fellow safety Cooper Taylor uncertain because of a concussion he suffered Sunday against Carolina.
Odell Beckham Jr. is going to have to serve his one-game suspension. Hearing officer James Thrash yesterday upheld the suspension for multiple violations of safety-related playing rules after hearing an appeal by the New York Giants wide receiver. Beckham will miss Sunday night's game at Minnesota.
Meanwhile, Giants punter Brad Wing says Beckham was threatened by an unidentified bat-wielding man dressed in Carolina Panthers sweats during pre-game warmups.
Wing says the man refused to shake Beckham's hand after it was offered near midfield, and later crossed onto the Giants' side of the field with the bat in hand. "I'll be the reason this will be your last game," Wing recalls the man saying. Wing talked about the incident for the first time with the media on Wednesday.
Wing's account came as Beckham's appeal of a one-game NFL suspension for multiple violations of player safety rules was being heard by appeals officer James Thrash. Beckham was flagged for three personal fouls in Sunday's 38-35 Carolina win, including one for a helmet-to-helmet hit on cornerback Josh Norman, with whom he tangled repeatedly in the game.
