New York Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is going to miss Thursday night's game against the Washington Redskins with a concussion. The Giants also announced on Wednesday that first-round draft pick Ereck Flowers is doubtful for the NFC East game with an ankle injury.

Also out for New York are receiver Victor Cruz, tight end Jerome Cunningham, defensive tackle Markus Kuhn and defensive end Owa Odighizuwa. Defensive end Robert Ayers is questionable. Middle linebacker Jon Beason is probable to play for the first time this season.

Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson continues to be sidelined with a hamstring injury. Also out is cornerback Justin Rogers and linebacker Martrell Spaight, who played placed on injured reserve. Linebacker Perry Riley Jr. and tackle Tom Compton are questionable.

Quarterback EJ Manuel can finally stop worrying about his role with the Buffalo Bills this season. After bouncing up and down the depth chart to the point he began questioning his future with the team, Manuel cemented the job as Tyrod Taylor's backup on Wednesday a day after journeyman Matt Cassel was traded to Dallas.

Manuel welcomed the promotion while noting he has blocked out what's gone on in the past. It hasn't been easy for the Bills former starter and 2013 first-round draft pick. He became the odd-man out behind Taylor and Cassel following an offseason-long competition.

Kam Chancellor has ended his holdout and reported to the Seattle Seahawks. He missed training camp and the first two weeks of the regular season. Chancellor has potentially lost more than $2 million with a holdout that appears to have not resulted in a new contract. It is not clear how much he will be fined.

A high school principal in Texas says the school's assistant football coach has acknowledged directing two players to a hit a referee during a game earlier this month. In an internal school district statement first reported by ESPN, John Jay High School Principal Robert Harris says assistant coach Mack Breed told him he asked the students to hit the referee because the ref had used racial slurs and missed calls. Referee Robert Watts has denied using any slurs. Breed remains suspended from the district. He did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

The lawyer for a woman alleging she was sexually assaulted by Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane says an empty evidence bag was improperly left in the doorway of the woman's mother's home. Thomas Eoannou (ee-WAHN'-oo) said Wednesday that the bag at one point contained the rape kit used when the woman reported that she had been assaulted. Eoannou wants the FBI or state police to probe how the bag left the custody of investigators.

Eoannou says it's not clear how the bag got to the mother's home or what effect it may have on the investigation. He says the mother made the bizarre discovery when she came home from work for lunch on Tuesday. Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita did not immediately return a message seeking comment from The Associated Press. Police have been investigating Kane since early August. He has not been charged.

Registration had opened last Monday, with the fastest runners getting first dibs on a bib. Not all qualifiers who submitted an entry for the 120th running of the marathon will be accepted.

Quarterback Cardale Jones will start for top-ranked Ohio State in Saturday's game against Western Michigan. Coach Urban Meyer announced the decision following practice Wednesday, two days after hinting he was considering starting J.T. Barrett. Jones was pulled in the second quarter of a 20-13 victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday after throwing two interceptions.

Also in college football:

— Linebacker and running back Myles Jack will miss the rest of the season for ninth-ranked UCLA due to a knee injury. He was injured during practice on Tuesday and has undergone surgery. It's the Bruins' third season-ending injury to an important defensive starter.

The Wolves will be on the hook for the buyout money unless Philadelphia or Portland claims him. They are the only teams currently with salary cap space to withstand Bennett's contract.

NASCAR:

Bowyer was docked 25 points, dropping him to last in the 16-driver Chase for the Sprint Cup championship field.
