Sports Report: Warriors Are NBA Champs For The First Time Since 1975

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors

NBA:

The Golden State Warriors are champions for the first time since 1975 following a 105-97 triumph over the Cavaliers in Game 6 at Cleveland. Andre Iguodala and Stephen Curry each scored 25 points and combined for four free throws in the closing seconds. Iguodala came away with the Bill Russell Award as MVP of the finals.

MLB:

In all interleague play in baseball, Miami crushed the Yankees 12-2, Boston topped Atlanta 9-4, the Mets edged Toronto 3-2, Pittsburgh blanked the White Sox 3-0, Baltimore toppled Philadelphia 19-3, Washington blew out Tampa Bay 16-4, Cleveland shut out the Cubs 6-0, St. Louis slid past Minnesota 3-2, Houston won against Colorado 8-5, Oakland bested San Diego 6-5, San Francisco tripled up Seattle 6-2, Cincinnati topped Detroit 5-2, Texas edged the Dodgers 3-2, Kansas City beat Milwaukee 7-2, and it was the Angels over Arizona 4-1.

Federal law enforcement authorities are investigating whether the St. Louis Cardinals illegally hacked into a computer database of the Houston Astros to obtain information on their former division rival's players. That's according to a person familiar with the situation who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because Major League Baseball, law enforcement officials and the two teams were not disclosing details of the investigation. Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said subpoenas have been issued, though he did not provide details.

Milwaukee Brewers Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Uecker was released from the hospital on Tuesday after an overnight stay. Uecker was hit in the head by a baseball during batting practice Monday prior to the game against Kansas City. The 81-year-old broadcaster worked the first six innings of the game and started feeling dizzy before he was diagnosed with a mild concussion.

NFL:

The Buffalo Bills have added depth to an already talented defensive front by signing veteran free agent tackle Andre Fluellen.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 280 pounds, Fluellen has seven years of NFL experience spent mostly with the Detroit Lions.

He's a career backup, who had two sacks in eight games with the Lions last season. Overall, the 2008 third-round draft pick has 4-1/2 sacks, 12 quarterback hits and 10 tackles for a loss in 77 career games, including six starts.

Fluellen will compete for a backup job on a defensive line that features three Pro Bowl selections in Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams and Mario Williams.

The signing was announced Tuesday, when Buffalo opened a three-day mandatory minicamp.

Safety Deon Broomfield was designated waived/injured to make room for Fluellen's addition.

WNBA:

In the WNBA, Indiana beat Atlanta 90-79, Tulsa bested San Antonio 88-61, Connecticut defeated Seattle 79-58, and it was Minnesota over Los Angeles 67-52.

World Cup:

The United States has won Group D in the Women's World Cup, improving to 2-0-1 in the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Nigeria. Abby Wambach scored late in the first half as the Americans bounced back from Saturday's scoreless tie against Sweden. It was Wambach's 14th World Cup goal, pulling her even with Birgit Prinz for second on the all-time list behind Brazil's Marta, who has 15.

NCAA:

Vanderbilt and LSU were Tuesday's winners at the College World Series. Zander Wiel broke up Alex Young's no-hit bid with a seventh-inning homer, and Philip Pfeifer and Kyle Wright combined on a five-hitter as the Commodores beat TCU 1-0. The Tigers eliminated Cal State Fullerton 5-3 as Alex Lange pitched his second complete game in three starts despite allowing three runs in the first inning.

NCAAF:

The College Football Playoff selection committee will wait until after the Army-Navy game is played to complete the New Year's Six bowl lineup if it determines the outcome of that game should be factored into the pairings.

College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill Hancock tells The Associated Press only the bowl spots impacted by the Army-Navy game will be left open until after the game.

Army and Navy play the Saturday after the selection committee picks the teams to play in the national semifinals and helps fill open spots in four other marquee bowl games. While the service academies being selected for the final four is a long shot, Hancock said that if either is in the contention for a playoff spot, the committee will wait to seed the field.
