NBA:
In the NBA finals, Golden State moved to the verge of the NBA championship by posting their second straight victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers 104-91 to take a 3-2 series lead.
MLB:
In baseball, in the American League, the Yankees topped Baltimore 5-3, Toronto beat Boston 13-5, Houston shut out Seattle 13-0, Minnesota edged Texas 4-3, Tampa Bay defeated the White Sox 2-1, Detroit won against Cleveland 8-1, and it was Oakland over the Angels 8-1.
In the National League, the Mets bested Atlanta 10-8, Pittsburgh slid past Philadelphia 1-0 in 11 innings, Washington blanked Milwaukee 4-0, Arizona shut out San Francisco 4-0, the Dodgers doubled up San Diego 4-2 in 12 innings, the Cubs beat Cincinnati 2-1 in 11 innings, and it was Colorado over Miami 4-1.
In interleague play, the Kansas City at St. Louis game was postponed due to rain.
The owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox have said that the team will leave Rhode Island if a deal can't be reached with the state. The team and state lawmakers are working on a deal after the team's original proposal asking for $120 million in state subsidies was rejected with a lukewarm response from the public and lawmakers.
NHL:
Play resumes tonight as the Chicago Blackhawks attempt to finish the series one game early of the full seires at Game 6 when they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at 8 p.m.
NASCAR:
Kurt Busch was declared the winner of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. The race was called on lap 139 because of heavy rain. Dale EarnhardtJr. was second.
INDYCAR:
Josef Newgarden took the lead on the 72nd of 85 laps and held on to capture the Honda IndyCar Toronto race. The win is his second of the IndyCar season. Teammate Luca Filippi was second 1.4 seconds behind, followed by HelioCastroneves in third as drivers battled wet conditions early as well as in the latter stages of the race.
LEMANS:
Actor Patrick Dempsey finally got on the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, finishing second in the GTE Amateur category on Sunday. The 49-year-old American, a long-time star of "Grey's Anatomy," was one of three drivers in the Dempsey-Proton Porsche 911 RSR team. They finished behind the winning Ferrari.
Dempsey is a huge motorsports fan and was driving Le Mans for the fourth time, but this was his first top-three finish.
WNBA:
Washington defeated New York 74-59, Chicago beat Indiana 98-72, Connecticut won against Atlanta 82-64, Phoenix toppled Minnesota 81-66, Tulsa bested San Antonio, and it was Seattle over Los Angeles 60-54.
Track & Field:
Former New York Giants running back David Wilson significantly improved his performance in the triple jump in his second meet in two days, but still was short of the qualifying standard for the U.S. championships. Wilson jumped 52 feet, 3/4 inches at the East Region Open Championships yesterday with an eight-step approach. A day earlier, he went 48-1 1/4 in his first pro meet at the Adidas Grand Prix.
NFL:
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his family have hosted a Super Bowl ring ceremony at his home in Chestnut Hill to present the rings to more than 70 players and coaches. Last night's ceremony marked the fourth time the Krafts have hosted such a ceremony, including the third time at his home. On February 1st, the Patriots overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24.
Golf:
Bernhard Langer is the first man since Arnold Palmer 30 years ago to win the Senior Players Championship two straight years. Langer wound up 19-under-par after a final round 3-under-68 to finish six shots in front of Kirk Triplett.
Inbee Park was the winner of the Women's PGA Championship, the second major of the LPGA season. She shot a final round 5-under-68 to finish 19-under par, five shots in front of fellow South Korean Sei Young Kim. American Lexi Thompson was third at 12-under. Park has now won the event three straight years and has regained the No. 1 world ranking.
NCAA:
TCU routed LSU 10-3 on the second day of the College World Series in Omaha. Preston Morrison, an eighth round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs, limited LSU to five hits and a run in seven innings.
In the second game, Cal State Fullerton was leading Vanderbilt 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth when rains came. That game will be resumed at Noon Eastern on Monday.
