Sports Report: Blackhawks Top Lightning In Game 1

NHL:

In the NHL, in the Stanley Cup Finals, Chicago beat Tampa Bay 2-1.

MLB:

In baseball, in the American League, in a double header, Boston doubled up Minnesota 6-3 in the first game and Minnesota blanked Boston 2-0 in the second. The Yankees won against Seattle 3-1, Oakland topped Detroit 6-1, the White Sox trumped Texas 9-2, Houston beat Baltimore 3-1, Kansas City doubled up Cleveland 4-2, and it was Tampa Bay over the Angels 6-5 in 10 innings.

New York Yankees catcher Brian McCann will undergo an MRI on his sore right foot after pulling himself from yesterday's series finale in Seattle against the Mariners. McCann has been bothered by the injury for about 10 days since first being hurt on May 24th at home against Texas.

The Boston Red Sox have acquired outfielder Alejandro De Aza and cash considerations from the Baltimore Orioles for minor league right-hander Joe Gunkel. De Aza is expected to join the Red Sox for the finale of their four-game series against the Minnesota Twins today. He hit .214 with three homers and seven RBIs for the Orioles in 30 games this season before being designated for assignment last week.

In the National League, San Diego beat the Mets 7-3, Pittsburgh won against San Francisco 5-2, Philadelphia slid past Cincinnati 5-4 in 11 innings, Arizona edged Atlanta 9-8, St. Louis defeated Milwaukee 7-4, Miami topped the Cubs 7-3, and it was Colorado over the Dodgers 7-6.

In interleague play, Toronto shut out Washington 8-0.

Boston Red Sox President Larry Lucchino had acknowledged that creating a new stadium proposal for the Pawtucket Red Sox will require more time. Lucchino is a co-owner of the PawSox. He sent a letter this week to state lawmakers saying a proposal would not be ready before the end of the legislative session.

NBA:

The NBA Finals start Thursday night when Steph Curry, the NBA's MVP, leads the Golden State Warriors against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Warriors won a league-best 67 games during the regular season, and lost just three times at Oracle Arena all season.

NFL:

New York Jets tight end Jace Amaro left the team's practice yesterday with what appeared to be a back injury. Amaro was running a route when he stopped short, went down on one knee and clutched his back while grimacing. He was looked at by trainers on the sideline and then headed to the locker room.

Horse Racing:

American Pharoah has been made the early 3-5 favorite to win the Belmont Stakes and become horse racing's first Triple Crown winner in 37 years. The Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner drew the Number 5 post position for Saturday's 1 ½-mile race at Belmont Park. Fourteen horses have won from there, and trainer Bob Baffert says he's pleased with the position.

Legal:

A lawyer for former NFL player and convicted killer Aaron Hernandez has asked a judge to allow an inquiry into what he says is a juror's "exposure to significant extraneous matter." Hernandez was convicted in April of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
