NCAA:
In men’s college basketball in the America East, UAlbany will see Stony Brook tomorrow at 11 a.m. for a chance at the championship title. La Salle topped UMass 76-69 in the Atlantic 10. UConn bested South Florida 69-43 in the first round of the American Athletic Conference.
Selection Sunday for the NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball tournament is at 6 p.m. this Sunday on CBS.
In women’s college basketball in the America East, UAlbany will face off against Hartford at 4:30 p.m. for the title.
NFL:
All-Pro running back DeMarco Murray has agreed to a five-year package with the Eagles. A person familiar with the contract says Murray's deal was valued at $42 million, with $21 million guaranteed. He turned down a four-year, $16 million offer from the Cowboys last fall.
Murray helped the Cowboys win the NFC East title last season while rushing for a franchise-record 1,845 yards.
A person familiar with the deal says the New York Jets and cornerback Antonio Cromartie have agreed to terms on a four-year contract. Cromartie returns to the Jets after one season with Arizona, where he played for former Cardinals defensive coordinator and current Jets head coach Todd Bowles.
The Buffalo Bills have signed free-agent quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who spent the past four seasons backing up Joe Flacco in Baltimore. Taylor signed a two-year contract.
NBA:
In the NBA, New York topped the Lakers 101-94, Utah beat Houston 109-91, Kyrie Irving scored an NBA-season-and-career-high 57 points where Cleveland edged San Antonio in overtime 128-125, Indiana won against Milwaukee in overtime 109-103, and it was Washington over Memphis 107-87.
NHL:
Over on the ice, Boston beat Tampa Bay in a shootout 3-2, Pittsburgh bested Edmonton 6-4, St. Louis skated by Philadelphia in a shootout 1-0, Colorado beat New Jersey in a shootout 2-1, Chicago defeated Arizona 2-1, Los Angeles shut out Vancouver 4-0, San Jose blanked Nashville 2-0, Florida doubled up Winnipeg 4-2, Ottawa beat Montreal 5-2, Columbus won against Detroit 3-1, and it was Dallas over Carolina 5-3.
MLB:
Indians ace and reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber has accepted a one-year contract worth just $601,000 if he stays in the majors this season. The Indians have expressed interest in signing him to a longer deal and have had preliminary talks with his representatives.
Kluber was 18-9 with a 2.44 ERA and 269 strikeouts for Cleveland last season.
In baseball spring training, Boston beat Pittsburgh 5-1, the Yankees edged Atlanta 3-2, the Mets bested Washington 11-9, Tampa Bay topped Toronto 10-3,
Golf:
Brian Davis fired a 6-under-par 65 and a one-stroke lead over Sean O'Hair and Ricky Barnes after the opening round in the first round of the PGA's Valspar Championship. Davis closed his round with a chip-in from 25 feet on the ninth green. Barnes, playing in the afternoon, was tied for the lead until he three-putted the par-3 17th from 35 feet and missed a 12-foot birdie putt on the last hole.
World Cup:
Zimbabwe was thrown out of soccer's 2018 World Cup qualifying for failing to pay its national team coach.
FIFA's disciplinary committee said it took the action "as a result of the non-payment of an outstanding debt" by Zimbabwe's soccer federation to coach Jose Claudinei Georgini.
