Sports Report: NY Rangers Get Seventh Straight Win With 4-2 Victory Over Washington

In the NBA, Brooklyn beat Denver 102-96, Orlando trumped Boston 100-95, Atlanta bested the Clippers 107-104, Philadelphia defeated Miami 91-87, Charlotte won against Milwaukee 108-101, Portland topped Oklahoma City in overtime 115-111, Chicago beat Washington 99-91, Cleveland bested Minnesota 125-104, Phoenix defeated Dallas 124-115, Indiana topped New Orleans 96-84, and it was the Lakers over Golden State 115-105.

NHL:

Over on the ice, the Rangers doubled up Washington for a seventh consecutive win 4-2, Detroit topped Buffalo 6-3, Boston beat Nashville 5-3, Philadelphia bested Minnesota 5-2, Montreal won against the Islanders 3-1, Carolina edged New Jersey 2-1, Toronto blanked Dallas 4-0, Tampa Bay trumped Pittsburgh 4-3, Arizona topped Edmonton 5-1, Colorado shut out St. Louis 5-0, and it was Winnipeg over Chicago 5-1.

NCAA:

In top 25 men’s college basketball, UNLV beat No. 3 Arizona 71-67, Stanford topped No. 9 Texas in overtime 74-71, and it was No. 4 Louisville over CS Northridge 80-55.

Locally, Cornell topped Siena 75-57.

NFL:

The AFC West champion Denver Broncos led the NFL with nine players selected for the Pro Bowl.

Quarterback Peyton Manning was picked for the 14th time. Joining Manning from the Broncos will be Ryan Clady, Chris Harris, Von Miller, Aqib Talib, Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, T.J. Ward and DeMarcus Ware.

The NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys were second with six selections for the Jan. 25 game in Glendale, Arizona, site of the Super Bowl.

Tony Romo will be going for the fourth time. Dez Bryant, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin, DeMarco Murray and Tyron Smith were also honored.

Five members of the New England Patriots have been selected to the 2015 NFL Pro Bowl. Quarterback Tom Brady, kicker Stephen Gostkowski, tight end Rob Gronkowski, cornerback Darrelle Revis and wide receiver Matthew Slater have been selected. The game will be played on Sunday, January 25th at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, and will be televised nationally by ESPN.

MLB:

Jake Peavy and the San Francisco Giants have finalized a $24 million, two-year contract, that was agreed to last week.

The 33-year old right-hander helped Boston win the 2013 World Series and was traded to San Francisco on July 26. After beginning 1-9 with Boston, Peavy went 6-4 with a 2.17 ERA in 12 starts for San Francisco.

Meanwhile the Minnesota Twins have announced that they signed right-hander Saratoga native Tim Stauffer to a one-year $2.2 million contract.
