Sports Report: Buffalo Crushes Jets 38-3 In Detroit

NFL:

During Monday Night Football, in the snowed out game that was postponed, the Buffalo Bills crushed the Jets 38-3 in Detroit last night, and Baltimore beat New Orleans 34-27.

NBA:

In the NBA, Houston beat New York 91-86, Indiana bested Dallas 111-100, the Clippers topped Charlotte 113-92, Cleveland defeated Orlando 106-74, Portland trumped Philadelphia 114-104, Toronto won against Phoenix 104-100, and it was Chicago over Utah 97-95.

NHL:

Over on the ice, the Islanders slid past Philadelphia in a shootout 1-0, Pittsburgh beat Boston 3-2, Minnesota bested Florida 4-1, and it was Detroit over Ottawa 4-3.

Viktor Tikhonov, the Soviet hockey coach whose teams won three Olympic gold medals but fell to the United States in the "Miracle on Ice," has died after a long illness. He was 84.

Under Tikhonov, the Soviet "Big Red Machine" was a powerhouse, although it had to settle for the silver medal at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid after the stunning defeat to the United States.

Tikhonov's teams went on to win three Olympic gold medals. He also led the Soviet team to eight world championship titles.

MLB:

The Boston Red Sox have worked out contracts with free-agent infielders Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez. The 28-year-old Sandoval is a career .294 hitter who had 16 homers and 73 RBIs in the regular season for San Francisco this year. The 30-year-old Ramirez spent last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, batting .283 with 13 homers and 71 RBIs.
