MLB:

The Kansas City Royals are one victory away from advancing to their first World Series in 29 years. The Royals nipped Baltimore 2-1 to take a 3-0 lead in their American League Championship Series at Kauffman Stadium. Billy Butler's sixth inning sacrifice fly broke a 1-1 tie for the Royals, who didn't allow a hit after the third inning. Game 4 is this afternoon at 4.

The San Francisco Giants take a 2-1 lead over St. Louis into tonight's Game 4 of the NL Championship Series following yesterday's 5-4 victory in 10 innings. Ryan Vogelsong goes for the Giants tonight (8:07 p.m. Eastern time) against Shelby Miller of the Cards.

The New Jersey Devils beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 last night to extend their season-opening winning streak to three games, all on the road. Cory Schneider made 26 saves, and Mike Cammalleri had a tiebreaking goal in the third period. Travis Zajac had the other New Jersey goal.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and players' union chief DeMaurice Smith have agreed to continue discussing changes to the league's personal conduct policy following a four-hour session in New York yesterday. In an email to player representatives, Smith says he made it clear to the league that the union wants due process.

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz and cornerback Trumaine McBride have been placed on season-ending injured reserve. The Giants announced the moves late yesterday, a day after the two veterans had surgery for injuries they suffered during Sunday's game against Philadelphia Eagles.

Golf – PGA:

U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer seized control of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf after yesterday's 6-under 65 and a two-shot lead over Bubba Watson. British Open and PGA champion Rory McIlroy is four shots back and Jim Furyk seven off the lead as they prepare to tee off today in the conclusion of the two-day event in Bermuda.

NBA:

The New York Knicks beat the Philadelphia 76ers 84-77 last night in a preseason game in Syracuse. Carmelo Anthony scored 17 points in a successful return to his college home. Anthony led Syracuse to its only national championship in 2003.
